For the first time since the Grand Canyon Rotary was formed an Interact club was created.  With nearly 20 members the club was formed and has been assisted by our Rotary members Melissa Austin and Eric & Sue Duthie. It's truly and awesome thing for our little community to have another organization representing Rotary International.

Grand Canyon Rotary Club held a regular meeting today. We were served pepper steak over rice, steamed carrots, salad, and raspberry cheese cake for desert.

The thought for the day was "It's hard to keep the proper perspective when all around everything is a blur. We find ourselves grappling with employee issues, customer issues, family issues and everything else that becomes a center focal point of our lives. When in reality it's those little things that get in the way of things that are truly important."

Our next meeting will be on August 26, and our program will be presented by Club Member Melissa Austin. In attendance will be District Governor Paul Puliken.

Rob's message of the day was a poem by Charles Bukowski.

Presentation was on the virtues of Waterbrick, a possible solution when we need to send something to some place in crisis.

Our next meeting will be on August 19, and our program will be presented by Club Member Marty Harris.

Grand Canyon Rotary Club had its weekly meeting today at the Thunderbird Lodge in the Grand Canyon National Park. We were served pepper steak over rice, steamed broccoli, salad, and chocolate pound cakes for desert.

Due to a miscommunication, we were unable to have District Governor Paul Puliken today.

We had no program today, nor did we have any visitors. Instead of a program we had in informal discussion of needs we saw in the area and how we might address them.

A lot of discussion was made concerning our local school district and suppliment lunches for students who cannot bring a lunch and/or cannot afford one. Preliminary plans were made to contact the school superintendent and see how we might help.

Another idea was to reach out to our neighboring Rotary district in Wickenburg, who recently suffered massive flooding, and offer what help we could with clean up efforts there.

Our next meeting will be on July 29, and our program will be presented by Club President Clayann Cook.

District 5490 Newsletter has changed its name to the 5490 Transformers

Attached is the first District Newsletter of our new Rotary Year. Leadership has changed throughout the Rotary world, but Service Above Self continues with new volunteer leadership.

The key word is volunteer. None of our new leaders can succeed without all our support. If you think someone needs to do something - maybe you should volunteer to be that someone. If an effort you observe is less than perfect - maybe you should offer to lend a hand. Remember, there is more than one right way to do things, and if your club always does what it has always done, they'll probably get what they've always got, but less of it, with less fun and less enthusiasm.

Celebrate and support new ideas! Be part of a great year - Reach Within to Embrace Humanity!

The Four-Way Test is every Rotarian's guide to ethical behavior.

Of the things we think, say, and do:
+ First, is it the truth?
+ Second, is it fair to all concerned?
+ Third, will it build good will and better friendships?
+ Fourth, is it beneficial to all concerned?

F or years, Rotary’s commitment to Service Above Self has been channeled through the Avenues of Service, which form the foundation of club activity. To get started on a project, think broadly about how your club and its members could contribute within each avenue.

On Tuesday June 14th, Don Schiller, GSE (Group Study Exchange) Coordinator for District 5490 brought Bobby, Phoebe, Ada, Jill & Darren to visit the Grand Canyon. I met them at the Imax, where they got the chance to see the new Condor Encounter Show. After seeing the Imax movie they were really excited about seeing the "real" thing. We proceeded along the East Rim Drive to Desert View. Everytime they saw a glimpse of the canyon there were lots of "oohs & aahs" about how beautiful it was.  They told me that seeing pictures of the canyon as beautiful as they looked cannot compare to the "real" thing!
