*  Rotary Club of Anthem met at the Ironwood Clubhouse on Friday; April 18, 2008.  President Larry Evans rang the bell to start the meeting at 7:30 a.m.  Members and guests rose to Pledge Allegiance to the Flag, sing a song and hear a prayer.
*  Jim's Thought for the Day: A couple from New Mexico were left off at Happy Valley Road.  They walked up the highway toward Anthem.  A sheriff's deputy picked up the weary couple and brought them to Anthem.  Posse members called Scott Foreman who works with the Salvation Army out of Fellowship Church.  Scott arranged for them to get back home to New Mexico.  Your bell ringing dollars at work.
*  Barry: Rotary Minute: MGM=Member Getting Member.  Recognize members who have sponsored a new member: Tom Setter, Craig Boates, Tom Spangler, Debbie Geisler, Rick Casto, Alan Costa.  Each one received a sponsor pin and a plaque.
*  Barry: Interact Club of BCHS will hold a banquet on Sunday, April 20 at Asiana Restaurant.
*  Rick Nollenberger: Presented flags from the two Rotary Clubs he visited in Hawaii.
*  Bob Ticer: Paul Harris Fellowship for Doug will be presented as soon as Doug returns.
*  Ray: Asked that members who plan to play at the Golf Tournament on May 17 please pre-register on the sheets at each table.
*  Jim: Next Golf committee meeting will be at Boates & Crump office on Monday, April, 21 at 6:30 p.m.
*  Tim: Going to Prescott on Saturday, May 3 for Rotary meeting.  Call him if you would like to carpool.
*  Sam: A $500 check from a Rotary Club in Ontario, Canada arrived for the Sunrise House in Uganda.  He is now a sponsor for one of the 50 orphans; that means he has pledged $50 per month ($600/yr.) to meet the living and educational expenses for that child.  Others may sign up to do the same.
*  Barry: Harlem Wizards will be at BCHS Tuesday, April 22 to play Anthem educators as a fundraiser for the BCHS Jags.
*  Happy Dollars were collected.
*  Raffle: Won by Al Pollock who missed the Joker.
*  Jan: Introduced four members who gave 5 minute "Who Am I" speeches.
*  Milan Fortner: Born in Alabama.  He lived in New Mexico for 17 years as a firefighter; married his wife Grace.  Her first pregnancy showed she would have a child with Down's Syndrome.  About that time, he was injured on the job and began to take painkillers.  He became addicted to them for 3 years.  October 20, 2006 he asked for help and joined the 13 month program at Teen Challenge where he beat the addiction and now works at Teen Challenge.  He liked the commraderie at a Rotary meeting he attended with Rick Casto and joined the club.
*  Tim Maki: Born in Lansing, Michigan the youngest of 4 brothers and 1 sister.  In 1978 he threw everything he owned in his car and headed for San Diego, CA.  At Bell Road and the Freeway, his car broke down.  He stayed in Arizona where he taught school and there met his wife, Marie.  They married on April 30, 1983 and subsequently had three children, Jessica, Zak and Mason.  Living on two teacher's salries was not easy, so, Tim left teaching and became an insurance agent for State Farm.  He retired from that company after nearly 20 years and started his own independent insurance agency.  Jessica is about to graduate from college; Zak has joined the marines; Mason is about to graduated from BCHS and will attend NAU.
*  Tom Keck: Born in San Francisco, CA.  Was on the wrestling team in high school.  Joined the Air Force and ended his enlistment at Luke, AFB.
Spent 18 years in Aerospace then graduated from ASU in 2001 with a degree in computer science.  Eventually, he became a mortgage broker.  His wife, Linda, is from Ontario, Canada.  They have no children.
*  David Livingston: Previously, he was a Rotarian in Hawaii.  He moved from Ohio to Ann Arbor, Michigan where he earned a BA at U of Mich.  After the Korean War, he received an MBA in Economy.  He spent six months in the Army in Virginia.  Was a commercial banker for 20 years before he went into private investment banking.  That led him to Hawaii and eventually, to Anthem.
*  Larry: Rang the bell to end the meeting at 8:32 a.m.
