organizations help people, Rotary has the added notion called fellowship.
In 1986, Rotary started the polio campaign to eradicate the disease.  Now, there are
polio cases in only four countries world-wide.  Rotary Shares with other organizations to
meet the goal to conquer polio.  Other efforts include wheelchair distribution world-wide.
At least 100,000,000 people could use wheelchairs.
In Arizona, 10,000 dictionaries were distributed in District 5490.  Our club contributed
1,200 of that number.  We were # 16 in the country.
At a convention in Barcelona, Spain, a man did flips across the stage then, sat down to
take off his legs.  He thanked Rotary for giving him the ability to walk.
Micro lending, a little bit of money is loaned, mostly to women in third-world
communities, for them to start businesses.  The pay-back rate is a whopping 93%.
Lake Havasu, AZ three Rotary's last year worked together with Kiwanis and other
clubs to immunize 300 children.  It promoted community involvement and included free
health checks.
White Tanks Rotary drove golf carts for disabled people and raised about $10,000 in
the process.
It was a great year to be 5490 District Governor.
