Our speaker tonight was John Lohuis.  John's career began by volunteering at the former Recreation Commission office in Memorial Park and he later studied Recreation at the University of Waterloo.  One of his early jobs was in Delhi where he helped set up the Ontario Tobacco Museum.
 
John worked in Windsor, Aurora, London and Mississauga in Parks and Recreation and was also involved in Facility Building and development.  In Mississauga, he helped with projects to build arenas, soccer pitches, indoor soccer programs and he helped in the design of the Hershey Centre.  John helped promote Women's Hockey.  He worked with Mayor Hazel McCallion.  During his tenure, Mississauga won a Communities in Bloom Award and he helped institute the Swim to Survive program for kids. 
 
His last position was with the Niagara Parks Commission as General Manager and CEO.  He managed it's many attractions and helped develop things such as the Zip line and the White Water Walk.
