Happy News: Jenny Juering was a guest of Jim Nepple. Erika thanked those involved as Parade Captains: Karen Diercks, Larry Hetzler, John and Kathy Kuhl, Jim Nepple, Rich Dwyer and Greg Jenkins. Harvey Allbee has been a Rotarian for 50 years... Happy Rotary Birthday! He make a $50 donation in recognition as Erika announced this anniversary marker!! Marv Krieger thanked Rotary for the recognition cake in honor of his 67 year membership and presented a check for $67 to the scholarship fund!! Diana Gradert reminded us of the Arts Council fundraiser at Ardon Creek Vineyard on July 22 with the River City Six as the entertainment!! John Kuhl asked for help in getting invocations and programs for the year. See John if you have great ideas!! Cristian Lopez was happy to help the neighborhood with tornado relief. Kevin Jenison announced his new position as full time Communications Manager for the City.
Club Business: Erika shared the World Bicycle Relief project endorsed by the District Governor, Mike Ruby for the District Project. This month WBRO will match any Rotary contributions to purchase a bike. This means your $147 will be matched by a WBRO contribution of $147 the cost of 1 bike. So it is a buy one get one deal. Bikes are needed in underdeveloped countries to provide transportation and access to health care, education and economic growth. Erika will be seeking board approval and club member contributions. The idea is 1 bike per member or in our club... the purchase of 70 bikes!!
Program: Tony Tone and Joel Kraushaar representatives of KWPC AM 860 and FM 95.1 and the Voice of Muscatine shared their involvement in the radio station and the newspaper!! 95.1 's goal is to play good music and serve the community. Former Rotarian John Schwandke sold the Radio Station to Wayne Waylund as Prarie Communications with the idea of being a local community involved radio station. Voice of Muscatine came online in October of 2015 with much excitement for the small staff who have grown the paper with their and the community's inspiration. The clearest message was their great interest and desire to be involved in community activities. The latest is the addition of a Streaming App which allows immediate involvement in any local or regional event. They concluded with " Our business is the community!!"
