Happy News: Naomi DeWinter is happy that the MCC Ag Program has been in existence for over 50 years and the anniversary get together was great!! Mike Ruby invited us to join Herb Wilson and his family at the Rotary Foundation Celebration for Herb's family as they are all inducted into the Arch Clump Society. Bobbi Holliday is proud of her son who has just been invited to join Phi Betta Kappa at Iowa State. Janet Morrow is proud that Macy is here presenting today! Nathan Mather is running for County Supervisor! Scott Ingstad is counting on UNI, Iowa and Iowa State for the NCA run this year!

Program: Nathan Mather introduced Mike McGrory, MHS Principal and his team including elena bobay, Chris Neinhaus, Kathy Degner, Tate Garrison, Macy Morrow, Tyler Coulston, and Judson Faulk.    Mike McGrory thanked Rotary for all that we do for the school district and MHS in particular.  Great strides have been made in improving attendance, lessening discipline referrals, decreasing the number of student failures and increasing the rigor of coursework.  42% of MHS graduates currently complete a vocational or 4 year degree within 6 years of graduation from MHS.  MHS added a testing sequence including all 11th grade students completing the ACT. The science sequence has changed to Biology, Chemistry and Physics.  Weighted grades and an Honors Scholar program has added to the rigor. There are now 20 AP courses, changing from 8 in the recent past.  Today over 460 students are taking 778 seats in these 20 AP courses.  Over all the students speaking said their teachers care about them, they want to come to school, they want to keep good grades and they do not want to miss school.  Individual student coursework failures have decreased by 50%, MHS attendance has improved from 89% to 93.5%.  One could hear from the students that they are proud of their success and that MHS is a place they want to be.

Mike McGrory will become the district's Assistant Superintendent and Jared Smith from Waterloo East has been hired as the new MHS Principal!!  The great story will continue!!
