Diana Gradert noted that her family owned business was in the newspaper, and Diana had several reminders for us of the 100th Anniversary Celebration Party on the 16th of November for the Hotel Muscatine and the upcoming Champagne Campaign for the Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine!!
Rotary News: Rich Dwyer recognized Gene Mathern and Rick Gosney for their sustaining Paul Harris recognition. Congrats!!

Program: Jodi Hansen, the Community Lead for the Blue Zones Community Initiative gave an update on Muscatine and our Blue Zone recognition.  Iowa is now the 10th Healthiest State in the Country which is an improvement from 16th!! Dan Buttner the Blue Zone guru was tasked with finding the healthiest places on earth and was featured by National Geographic Magazine.  The Power 9 Characteristics of these places are
  • Move naturally
  • Wine at 5
  • Know your purpose
  • Downshift
  • Eat until 89% full
  • Eat more fruits and vegetables and less meat
  • Right tribe..spend time with people you have things in common with
  • Reconnect with religion
  • Connect to your family
Think about the small changes you can make.  Muscatine is still trying to increase our engagement even though we are already certified. We are hoping to get more schools, worksites and grocery stores certified.  Blue Zones was named the Best Project in Muscatine by the Muscatine Journal.  It is never to late to pledge an action or volunteer!!
