July 2026

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Happy Canada Day!

This year marks the 159th anniversary of Canadian Confederation. As June comes to a close and July begins, I have mixed emotions. We have so much to celebrate and be grateful for including welcoming home our outbound exchange student, Mike, and at the same time saying goodbye to our favourite Swiss exchange student, Natalie.

June Recap

June was an amazing month for our club!

On June 4, we hosted another successful Golf Tournament at the Shelburne Golf & Country Club in partnership with the Economic Development Committee. Thank you to everyone who sponsored, participated, and supported this meaningful event. Your generosity and enthusiasm helped make the day a great success.

In mid-June, our exchange student from Switzerland, Natalie Worst, shared a wonderful presentation with the club, highlighting the differences between Canada and Switzerland while reflecting on some of her favourite memories during her year in Canada. We wish Natalie all the best as she returns home and thank her for being such a wonderful ambassador.

Planning is well underway for Pumpkinfest! Our committee (Michelle Chidwick) has been hard at work preparing for another fantastic event. For more information, please contact any Rotary Club member or email shelburnerotarypumpkinfest@gmail.com.

We wrapped up the month on June 25 by attending Come From Away at Theatre Orangeville. It was an outstanding performance that beautifully told the inspiring story of the people of Gander, Newfoundland, and their incredible kindness during a time of crisis.

Looking Ahead to July

It's hard to believe we're already entering the second half of the year! Planning continues for several exciting upcoming events.

On July 25, we will once again host our annual Smoked Pork Chop BBQ Dinner in conjunction with the Pickin' in the Park Festival at the Shelburne Agricultural Community Centre. If you're interested in purchasing a dinner, please contact us early to avoid disappointment. Email us at shelburnerotary@gmail.com.

In Closing

We look forward to seeing many of you at our Pork Chop BBQ Dinner and thank you for your continued support of the Rotary Club of Shelburne.

A special thank you goes to our incredible volunteers. Each of you brings unique talents, dedication, and enthusiasm to our club, and your willingness to serve is what makes our projects and events such a success. Together, we continue to make a positive difference in our community.

Yours in Rotary,

Karen Webster

tim hortons smile cookies

This year’s Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign raised a record-breaking $23.3 million for more than 700 charities and community groups across Canada.

The Rotary Club of Shelburne was once again honoured to partner with the Shelburne Tim Hortons locations. The local campaign raised $15,091 to support the Christmas Hamper Program, the Backpack Program, and other local causes. This is an incredible result considering that only one of the two Shelburne Tim Hortons locations was open during Smile Cookie week. (The location on County Road 124 was closed for renovations.)

Our thanks to John Lewandowski and all of the staff at Tim Hortons for their hard work in making the Smile Cookie week a success.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who supported the campaign by buying cookies!

youth exchange - highlights from natalie

This month, instead of writing what I did this month, I want to share a presentation that I gave to the Shelburne Rotary Club on my Youth Exchange experience. Which was amazing!

youth exchange - highlights from mike

As I’m sure everyone is aware the World Cup is going on right now.

Football (soccer in North America) is like a religion here. So it’s been really cool seeing the culture surrounding the game.

As well as seeing other exchange students expressing their national pride (yelling in their native languages).

It's another opportunity to experience all the different cultures.

I finished school a couple of weeks ago so I’ve had quite a bit of free time. I’ve been able to spend a lot more time with fellow exchange students. These last few weeks have been really memorable.

I also had my final District Conference. All the exchange students attended for a great meal and the flag ceremony to conclude the exchange year.
