November 2026

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

November Greetings!

As the vibrant colours of autumn begin to fade and we transition toward the winter season, November provides an opportunity to pause and reflect on the power of community, service, and gratitude. It is a month that reminds us to appreciate the people around us and recognize the impact we can make when we work together for the greater good.

October Highlights

October was an incredibly successful and rewarding month for the Rotary Club of Shelburne. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all of our members, volunteers, sponsors, and community supporters who helped make our events such a success.

Our Annual Food Drive, in partnership with Centre Dufferin District High School, once again demonstrated the incredible generosity of our community. Every donation collected helps support local families and strengthens the network of care that makes Shelburne such a wonderful place to call home. A special thank you to Rotarian Sandra Gallaugher for taking on this important project and, through her leadership and commitment, making it such a tremendous success.

We also welcomed residents and visitors to PumpkinFest, one of our favourite community events of the year. It was wonderful to see families, friends, and neighbours come together to enjoy the festivities, celebrate the season, and support local organizations. Events like PumpkinFest remind us of the importance of connection and community spirit. Special thanks to Rotarian Michelle Chidwick for her leadership, dedication, and energy in making the 2026 PumpkinFest our best one yet!

Later in the month, members attended the All Service Clubs Dinner, an evening dedicated to bringing our community together and celebrating the spirit of volunteerism. Shelburne is fortunate to have so many individuals committed to making a positive difference, and Rotary is proud to be part of that collective effort. Thank you to Rotarian Bobbi Ferguson for your drive, support, and hard work in helping make this event a success.

Looking Ahead

As we move through November, our club continues to focus on opportunities to serve, support local initiatives, and plan for the months ahead. While the weather may become cooler, the spirit of Rotary remains strong. Whether through community projects, fundraising efforts, youth initiatives, or fellowship, our members continue to demonstrate that service has no season.

We have a limited number of our famous Rotary Christmas Baskets remaining. If you are interested, don't wait. Contact us today before they're gone!

November is also a wonderful time to consider how each of us can make a difference. Sometimes the smallest acts of kindness, a helping hand, a listening ear, or a willingness to volunteer can have the greatest impact on those around us.

Remembrance Day

As we approach Remembrance Day, we pause to honour and remember the brave men and women who have served, and continue to serve, our country. Their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to protecting the freedoms we enjoy today should never be forgotten. On November 11, let us take a moment to reflect, offer our gratitude, and remember those who gave so much in service to others.

The values of service, integrity, and putting the needs of others before our own are principles that resonate deeply with Rotary's motto of Service Above Self. We are grateful for those who have served and for the lasting legacy they have left for future generations.

Lest We Forget.

In Closing

As we approach the holiday season, I encourage everyone to take time to reflect on what we have accomplished together and the positive impact we continue to make within our community. Thank you to our members, volunteers, partners, and supporters for your dedication and commitment to Service Above Self.

If you are looking for a meaningful way to connect with others, develop lasting friendships, and give back to the community, we would love to hear from you. Rotary offers countless opportunities to make a difference while building friendships and having fun along the way.

Wishing everyone a wonderful November filled with gratitude, kindness, and community spirit.

As Remembrance Day reminds us of the sacrifices made for our freedom, and as we begin preparing for the holiday season, may we continue to support one another and strengthen the bonds that make our community so special.

Yours in Rotary,
Karen Webster

holiday hamper program

Plans are already underway for this year’s Hamper Program and again we are hoping you will consider this program for your Holiday charitable giving.

The Hamper Program has been running in our community for at least 75 years (could be much longer) and although it has changed and grown significantly over the years one thing remains the same - to ensure that local families have a happy Holiday no matter how they celebrate the season.

Last year we provided 270+ families with a huge food hamper, fresh produce, milk, butter, eggs, cheese, health and body care items and a $50 gift card to purchase a turkey, ham, or other favourite to round out a holiday dinner.

Parents are also given the opportunity to pick toys and gifts for their children from new born to 11 years of age. Youth aged 12 to 18 are given a gift card to either Giant Tiger or Walmart.

Our community generously supports this program but as the need grows so also does the need for additional donations to make sure we can adequately support our families in need.

If you are able to help please contact ShelburneChristmasHampers@gmail.com or call Bobbi at 519-278-4578

Donations can be made via e-transfer to ShelburneRotary@gmail.com. A charitable receipt will be provided for donations of $25 or more. Please put “Hamper Donation” in the notes of the e-transfer.

This is a service club of Shelburne initiative.

Your support of our gift basket fundraiser is appreciated!

greenery fundraiser

Nothing says the Holidays better than a fresh, fragrant, festive wreath or garland decorating your door, railing or mantle.

This popular fundraiser has been a success for many years and this year is no different.

We have to place our orders in July when no one is thinking of the Holidays but we know that now that the weather is getting cooler and the odd flake is falling from the sky that some who missed the July deadline may now be interested.

If you would like to order a large wreath ($36) or an extra large wreath ($46) please email bobbirferguson@gmail.com or ShelburneRotary@gmail.com or call Bobbi at 519-278-4578. Limited quantities still available, order today!

They greenery arrives November 12 and we guarantee you will not be disappointed.

october food drive

Shelburne Rotary, CDDHS students and the Shelburne Food Bank again co-operated on the October Food Drive on October 3.

Earlier in the week, students from the high school distributed bags to households in Town. On Saturday morning, Rotarians and friends of Rotary collected the bags full of food and other household necessities from front porches. Over 2,200 pounds of food was collected during the morning and later in the day at PumpkinFest to help the Food Bank fill its shelves.

We thank everyone for their donations!

A special thank you to Dufferin Mutual for providing the bags for the food donations.

pumpkinfest

It was another successful year for PumpkinFest!

Following up on the success of the first three years, we made some improvements based on feedback from attendees. Inflatable bumper cars and a couple of sets from Lio and the Strays were geared toward the older members of the crowd, making for an even more well-rounded family event.

The event was a great success, with close to 1,000 in attendance on a sunny fall day enjoying games, inflatables, bumper cars, photo opportunities, music, a magician, dance presentations, food, and a vendor market. This has become a popular multi-generational family event for the Shelburne community, all of Dufferin County, and beyond.

Thank you to our sponsors, donors, supporters, volunteers and attendees, your participation enables our success!

Watch for the return of the PumpkinFest in the fall of 2027!

Thank you to everyone who supported our fundraising dinner for the Shelburne Food Bank.

New Member Profile: Welcome kelly!

My name is Kelly Welsh-Burns.

I am fortunate to have two wonderful daughters, Katie and Sydney, as well as two sons-in-law, Jason and Joey. I also have three fantastic grandchildren, Ayden, Caleb and Aubrey. I have lived in Grand Valley for 28 years.

I have recently retired from Dufferin County Community Support Service as a client services coordinator where I provided Meals on Wheels and Medical Transportation to residents in Dufferin County.

My goal has always been that once I was retired I would give back to the community that has given so much to me. This is why I have joined the Rotary Club, every meeting I'm reminded that I have made the right choice and that I can make a difference with everything that the club does for our community.
