Welcome to the Rotary Club of Shelburne newsletter. Special thanks to Caroline who puts the newsletter all together for us to bring you the latest and greatest events and news from your local Rotary Club and beyond.
Although we take the month of August off from physical meetings as a group there is still lots going on. Michelle and Bill have been planning and getting ready for the food drive and PumpkinFest event on October 11, 2025. This is going to be a fantastic community event for all ages, that you will not want to miss!
There will be an all-services club dinner at the Shelburne Legion on October 3, 2025. Again, an event you will want to participate in. For any of our events or more information contact any member of Shelburne Rotary or email shelburnerotary@gmail.com or go to our website at www.ShelburneRotaryClub.com.
Terry and I welcomed Natalie, our Rotary exchange student from Switzerland, on August 28 as her first host family. What an amazing program and we look forward to exploring and teaching her all about Ontario and Canada and while learning about Switzerland. If you have a daughter that is around 16 years of age, please let me know and perhaps she can assist with the school transition.
If you have ever thought about making an impact in your community or in a youth's life, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you to my fellow Rotarians for all you do.
Enjoy the rest of the summer!

Karen
welcome to canada natalie!
Natalie hit the ground running with her first host family, Karen and Terry, including a weekend at their cottage (and her catching a fish).
The entire club looks forward to meeting Natalie on September 4th.
As you all know, with some financial support of Orangeville Rotary, Shelburne Rotary is now supporting the Youth Exchange Program.
We are pleased to say that we have three amazing host families for our inbound student Natalie.
Rotary thanks these host families for welcoming Natalie into their homes and we know it will be a rewarding experience for both Natalie and all of you.
These families will allow Natalie to live as a "typical" Canadian, allowing her to experience different aspects of Canadian life.
As well, Rotary and individual Rotarians will be taking Natalie on different excursions, from hiking the hills of Mono or Mulmur, to visits to Toronto and Niagara Falls.
Finally, after some visa delays, we are pleased to say our inbound student Natalie (from Switzerland) has arrived in Canada and has settled in with her first host family.
Our outbound student Mike is still waiting for his visa to France, which is expected shortly.
Get ready for a day of fall fun as PumpkinFest returns to Natasha Patterson Park on October 11!
This annual event is a family favourite, bringing the community together for a celebration full of laughter, excitement, and seasonal charm. Families can enjoy a train ride around the park, receive a free pumpkin to take home, and enjoy live music and entertainment throughout the day.
The event also features a vendor market with local artisans and businesses and inflatable attractions that will keep the kids entertained for hours. Whether you're picking out pumpkins, dancing to the music, or simply soaking in the festive atmosphere, PumpkinFest is the perfect way to spend time with loved ones and make cherished fall memories.
Best of all, it’s free to attend—so gather your family and join us at Natasha Patterson Park for an unforgettable Thanksgiving weekend!
I have lived in the Shelburne area for over 40 years but spent more than 25 of those years commuting to Toronto and had little time to participate in our Town.
Once leaving corporate life I wanted to become more involved in our community and what better way than to join one of the many great service clubs in Shelburne?
Rotary seemed to be a good fit as our values, causes and lifestyles seemed to match and my father had, for many years, been a proud Rotarian.
I’ve been a member for over nine years now and in that time I have learned many things, met wonderful people of all ages and have helped support many events, charities and organizations in our Town.
Rotary offers wonderful experiences and meaningful support to causes both locally and internationally but my passion and personal focus are the events that help those in need within our community. Some of these events are the Golf Tournament for local projects such as the Splash Pad and Commissary Kitchen, the Rotary Backpack Project to assist local students with back to school, the all service club Hamper Program to assist those needing a “helping hand” for the holiday season (no matter how they celebrate), the Senior’s Market and Nutcracker Gala in support of food insecurity, in partnership with the Shelburne Food Bank.
A new project that I am particularly excited about is our community cooking project, Everyday Chefs, where we hope that participants will learn to make inexpensive, healthy and quick meals that are “cheaper than a Meal Deal” and in turn help reduce the high cost of grocery bills. The best part about the cooking classes is that they are free to participants due to the support of Shelburne Rotary and a Rotary District grant.
I am happy to be a Shelburne Rotarian and very proud of the work that our small, diverse group has been able to accomplish in its 85+ year history.
