This month Rotary kicked off our Backpack Project to support those students in need.
Rotary is also supporting the Shelburne Food Bank with their fundraising effort for a much needed cargo van to better serve the people using the Food Bank. I am pleased to announce that Shelburne Rotary has pledged $20,000 as a Community Partner.
Shelburne Rotary gives our time, energy, and passion to improve our community and the world. Our service projects and donations to charitable causes make a difference in people's lives.

Another successful Backpack Project is almost complete. We are very pleased that 150 students will go back to school in style with a backpack, lunch kit, water bottle and even some special treats.
The Shelburne Food Bank registered the students and the Rotary Club of Shelburne purchased age appropriate items for each grade level with the generous donations received.
A sincere thank you goes out to the Town of Shelburne and Tim Horton’s Smile Cookies for funding a significant portion of the project.
Len Guchardi has once again outdone himself and donated 54 backpacks.
Linda Lennox put a shout out to her Tupperware community and had 150 lunch sets donated to the Backpack Project. Linda donated her commission on these sales to the Shelburne Food Bank.
Penny Normington is an avid sewer and has challenged herself to make enough pencil cases in fun fabrics for all of the backpacks. Thank you, Penny!!!
Thank you for all the wonderful donations from local community members, Rotary Members, Friends of Rotary, Honorary Members and Food Bank volunteers.
On August 1 Rotary members will pack the backpacks and deliver them to the food bank so they can be distributed to the registered students in time for the first day of school in September.
It warms my heart to see how this project has grown, improved and become a program that the entire community has embraced. Together we have given our local students a helping hand with the necessities of back to school.

Shelburne Rotary had a food booth at Pickin' in the Park on July 26 & 27 to raise funds to support Rotary.
Thank you to everyone who supported us by buying food and drinks and to all those who came out to help cook and serve hotdogs, hamburgers, and almost 150 smoked pork chop dinners!
what we heard - dufferin community foundation
On July 11 we heard from Gord Gallaugher, Founding Director of the Dufferin Community Foundation.
Shelburne Rotary is a Member of the Founders Circle. In fact, Shelburne Rotary was the first organization to financially support the Dufferin Community Foundation.
After attending several meetings, Bill knew Rotary was a means of meeting and helping people in his new community and around the world.
Through Rotary Bill has met lots of amazing people, and developed many strong and lasting friendships.
However, the most satisfying aspect of being a Rotarian is "the impact you have to make people's lives better".
Whether fighting food scarcity, supporting sports, student scholarships or providing students with a backpack for school or a Splash Pad to play in, Shelburne Rotary makes a difference in people's lives.
It was during a business trip to Washington, DC and attending a Rotary meeting there one evening, that Bill learned about the Grade 3 dictionary project.
Bill proposed, and Shelburne Rotary approved, providing local grade 3 students with their own dictionary to help literacy and learning.
(After many years of giving local grade 3 students their own dictionary, with technology replacing printed dictionaries, the club no longer supports this project).

What is Rotary?
In our May Newsletter, we described Rotary's 7 Areas of Focus.
Last month we spoke about Water Sanitation and Hygiene.
Another area of focus is Education and Literacy. While a major focus of literacy is International, Shelburne Rotary also supports literacy in our community.
Whether it's our support of the School Breakfast Program (no student should go to school hungry) or our School Backpack Project, Shelburne Rotary is there to help.
Shelburne Rotary also provides elementary and high school awards.
In the past, Shelburne Rotary supplied local grade 3 students with their own dictionaries.
Last year Rotary District 7080 awarded Shelburne Rotary a matching grant towards books for the Shelburne Christmas Hamper Program.
