April 4: Mike Hiltz from MDA (Canada's Premier Space Company), speaking about Canada's next space mission. In person meeting at the Agricultural Hall.

As well, we welcomed a new member who joined Rotary to help the community he was born and raised in. Welcome aboard Steve!
We have kicked off our planning for our June 6 EDC/Shelburne Rotary Golf Tournament. Several other events are in the planning stages. Watch our website for more information as it becomes available.
Starting this month we will be supporting the Shepherd’s Cupboard Senior's Market each month until October. What an exciting time to be a Shelburne Rotarian and make a difference in our community. Consider joining or reaching out to be a "Friend of Rotary" to help at our events.
Finally, I want to recognize International Women's Day on March 8, and the movement for women's rights throughout the world.

Rotary Supports Autism Fundraiser
The Rotary Club of Shelburne recently donated to the 9th Annual Hearts Wide Open for Autism Charity Fundraiser, which will be a Mystery Dinner Theatre/Silent Auction on April 13 at the Shelburne Golf & Country Club. Deanna Avison is the fundraiser’s founder. The proceeds from this year’s fundraiser will be donated to the Orangeville Wolves Special Program Hockey Team, the only hockey team locally for individuals with special needs.
Rotary Supports Peace Scholarship
Promoting peace is one of Rotary International’s key causes. We refuse to accept conflict as a way of life. February is Rotary’s Peace and Conflict Resolution month.
Rotary projects provide training that fosters understanding and provides communities with the skills to resolve conflicts.
One way to spark this impact is to empower and train international students from an area of conflict in the Master of Peace and Conflict Studies program at Conrad Grebel University College and the University of Waterloo.
This professional degree takes 18 months to complete and provides graduates with tools to mitigate conflict and help individuals and organizations build peace.
Shelburne Rotary is proud to join other Rotary Clubs in our District to provide scholarships to three students.
Rotary Supports Feeding the Future & Shoes for Children of Torres de la Paz, Mexico
The Rotary Club of Cambridge is assisting the Seaside Rotary of Mexico with funds to continue to feed students the days they attend school and to supply them with shoes. The Rotary Club of Shelburne supported the project.
We Heard About RAGAS (Rotary Action Group Against Slavery)
At our February 29 meeting, we heard from Barbara Lustgarten Evoy, the Canadian Co-ordinator for RAGAS (Rotary Action Group Against Slavery) about human trafficking.
What an interesting speaker, talking about a frightening topic that is happening everywhere in Canada (and around the world).

International Women's Day - March 8
International Women’s Day is a day to recognize the demands for women’s equality.
Though the United Nations did not formally recognize March 8th as International Women’s Day until 1975, demands for gender equality go back more than a century.
Founded in 1905, it wasn’t until 1989 that Rotary International voted to admit women into Rotary clubs worldwide.
The response to the decision was overwhelming: by June 1990, the number of female Rotarians had skyrocketed to over 20,000. By 2010, the number of women was approaching 200,000.
The Rotary Club of Shelburne welcomed its first female member in 1992. Dr. Colette Whiting continues to be a valuable member of the club and the community.
The Rotary Club of Shelburne is proud of the contributions of women to Rotary and in particular the contributions of the women that currently represent over half of the club.
