In April we hosted a community Easter dinner. We were pleased by the number of guests that joined us for a home-cooked meal of ham, vegetables, potatoes, pies, and chocolate eggs. We will discuss hosting this event again in the future.
Our planning continues for our EDC/Rotary Golf Tournament. Golfers welcome and sponsorships are available.
On April 22 our Club celebrated our 87th year with a Town proclamation and flag raising. What an amazing legacy our club has, and we honour all those Rotarians before us by continuing their work to make our community and the world a better place.
On April 24 we collected litter at Greenwood Park.
And finally, we kicked off the Tim Horton's Smile Cookie Campaign.

The annual Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign returns April 28-May 4.
This year, the Rotary Club of Shelburne is proud to once again partner with Tim Hortons locations in Shelburne to raise funds for local charitable causes, including the Shelburne Food Bank, the Christmas Hamper Program, the Backpack Program, and other local causes.
100 per cent of the proceeds from Smile Cookie sales will be donated to over 600 charities and community groups in Canada, a campaign that Shelburne Rotary is proud to partner in.

Wade Mills, Mayor of the Town of Shelburne, proclaims Tuesday, April 22nd, as: “Shelburne Rotary Day”, in the Town of Shelburne, and urges all citizens to recognize the many contributions Shelburne Rotary has made to our community and commend the club for a wonderful heritage and a bright future.
Proclamation – Rotary Club of Shelburne
WHEREAS, the Rotary Club of Shelburne was established on April 22nd, 1938; and
WHEREAS, the club members work for the benefit of our community and the world; and
WHEREAS, the motto of Rotary is “Service Above Self”; and
WHEREAS, the club donates to many organizations and projects every year; and
WHEREAS, the club performs many community service projects and hosts many events through the year; and
WHEREAS, the club was a leader in the Shelburne Rotary Splash Pad and Shelburne Food Bank Cargo Van fundraising; and
WHEREAS, the club has shown by its actions and good works for the past 87 years that it is a significant asset to the community, providing leadership and funding projects and organizations that have greatly benefited the greater community and its citizens, as well as people around the world.

On April 10, members and friends of Shelburne Rotary toured the maple syrup operation of member Caroline and her husband Ken. Their operation, 4M - Mikoliew Mach Mulmur Maple, is located on the 1st Line of Mulmur north of Highway 89. The tour included a walk down to the tapped trees, an explanation of the entire process of getting from sap to syrup, and a tasting of sap, partially finished syrup, and two different grades of finished syrup. Thank you for the tour Ken and Caroline!
Fifty years ago, the first Earth Day was held on April 22, 1970, launching a wave of action to protect our environment.
Every year since, the day has been set aside to focus on mobilizing for action to protect our planet.
In recognition of April 22 - Earth Day, May 14 - Provincial Day of Action on Litter, and September 20 - World Clean-Up Day, Shelburne Rotary was out on April 24 picking up litter at Greenwood Park.
We are also planning on a tree planting initiative in the next few months.
While we are happy to participate at these events, saving our environment is something we need to do every day.
This month, after celebrating our 87th year in April, we thought that instead of featuring one member of our club, we would tell you more about our club as a whole.
We are 15 members (nine women and six men), of different cultures, ethnicities, backgrounds, experiences, and ages.
Six of us are retired and nine are still working. The average age is closer to 50 than 60, with some members in their 30s.
There is no attendance requirement. As members, we participate as we can, when we can.
What is a diverse group is bound by a common commitment of service to our community and the world.
We live by the Rotary motto of "Service Above Self".
