PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Chartered on April 7, 1938, Shelburne Rotary celebrated its 86th year as a Rotary Club in April. Our club has completed 86 years of service to the greater Shelburne community and communities across the world.
I want to congratulate all current and past Rotarians for their service to Rotary.
April also saw our support of the Shepherd’s Cupboard Food Bank Senior's Market expand into Melancthon.
Planning continues for our EDC/Shelburne Rotary golf tournament on June 6. Golfers and sponsors are still welcome.

what We Heard
On April 4, Mike Hiltz, Manager of Mission Systems of MDA Space (Robotics Division in Brampton), spoke to Shelburne Rotary.
Mike spoke about the evolution of the Canadarm (Space Shuttle Robotic Arm) and the Canadarm2 (Space Station Robotic Arm) and what a success story it has been for Canada.
That technology is now being further developed to support Canada's contribution (of Canadarm 3) to NASA's Lunar Gateway program. (Gateway to the moon).
On April 27 we visited Shelburne Primary EyeCare to see their brand new dry eye clinic. Dry eyes are a very common issue now that we all spend so much time looking at screens.

With over 20 plus years of experience in the nursing field, I have honed my skills in critical care nursing.
I joined Rotary wanting to be involved with community development and serving. The values of the club are also a key element. As a proud member of Shelburne Rotary, I am actively involved in initiatives that strengthen our community.
Beyond nursing, I am passionate about leadership and development, which has led me to a secondary career in speaking, coaching, and training. I focus on equipping individuals with the tools they need for personal and professional success, fostering a culture of achievement and growth.
What is Rotary?
7 Areas of Focus
The Rotary Foundation has identified seven areas of focus for Rotary grants.
These areas reflect critical humanitarian issues and needs that Rotarians are addressing worldwide.
The 7 areas of focus are:
supporting environment
maternal and child health
community economic development
water sanitation and hygiene
disease prevention and treatment
basic education and literacy
peace building and conflict prevention
These areas of focus are used in determining the allocation of District Grants. In the past two years the Rotary Club of Shelburne has received two matching grants from our District.
First, a grant in 2022 for the Backpack Program that provided every child under the age of 14 with books.
Second, in 2023 we received a grant to purchase books for the Christmas Hamper Program.
Both of these service projects are led by Rotarian Bobbi Ferguson, with the support of other Rotarians and the entire community.
