WE are meeting at the Senior Centre in Bolton with our host the Bolton Rotary Club. Our speaker is Richard Ehrlich who traveled to Guatemala with many other dentists giving treatments to local needing population. Some comments from the dentists follows. "Without doubt this is the hardest week of dentistry that all of us do all year. The heat and humidity are always a challenge to work in but this year it seemed a little more intense. The physical work of unpacking, setting up, taking down then packing again every day in a rainforest in itself is exhausting. Then the emotional investment can take a toll on you as well. Having said that, it always amazes me how rejuvenating the whole experience is for me and how incredibly good I feel at the end of this trip. During our final dinner one of the local nurses got very emotional while thanking us and said that we are the only group that service the indigenous people of this area even though there are local dentists that could do it. You cannot find better people to work with than the volunteers on this trip. I’m honoured to know them and work with them and hope to do so again soon."
