Come in and dine with us and.....JOHANNE LEVESQUE’S ‘TROUBLE AND STRIFE’ as our Speaker. It was a dare which prompted the author Johanne Levesque to write her first novel. Simcoe features an article telling Johanne’s inspiration behind her writing and the research that she carried out in writing her first book. She says ‘I describe what people were wearing at the time, what their income was — it was very small — people who were struggling and even the crimes that happened because of the poverty, and the forms of punishment. Lashes existed in those days, and hangings were still done in Toronto at the time.’ The story of the book takes us back into 1930 where a Canadian housewife looks after her family and a stream of Depression-era visitors. She welcomes her guests with a bowl of stew and open heart. Events turn around and she becomes the breadwinner for her family. The question is now that can she run the business without sacrificing herself. The novel is a distressing look upon the life of a brave woman which is narrated with intimate details and a smart poetic touch. The author has captured the age of War and economic distress that changed the Women’s lives forever. Johanna Levesque graduated with a BA in Psychology from York University. She has been a team leader in transportation, banking, legal and education systems. Johanne runs charity events for the children in Africa to support their education expenses. She has also completed seven marathons across USA and Canada. Read the full article here. |

Club assembly meeting will cover discussions of our budget for 2018/2019 and is also a social evening. This meeting is the last one that will take place at the Caledon Banquet Hall. The property has been sold and the new owners do not intend on running it as an Inn or restaurant. So thank you so much Oliver Stone for taking care of us with such grace and understanding. We have been spoiled by you and your organization. All of it was very much appreciated. Good luck to you and yours in your new endeavours. Cheers. Bernie

Gary Hall will be presenting some of his photographic art and also updating us on the Bruce Trail in Caledon. "For my presentation, I would like to use my photography to focus on the conservation aspect of the Bruce Trail with particular attention to the properties we manage in the Caledon Hills Bruce Trail Club. This would include images of various landscapes as well as flora and fauna."
The following is how he prescribes is love of hiking and photographie. "I purchased my first SLR camera back in the 60's and instantly fell in love with photography. My love of the outdoors led to my keen interest in hiking and nature/wildlife photography. My hiking and photography excursions have taken me on trips to East Africa, the Canadian and American Rockies, Patagonia (Argentina and Chile), Ecuador and the Galapagos Archipelago, Costa Rica and Florida and will hopefully lead me to more of the world's fascinating locations before I "hang up my cameras and hiking boots" |
