President Starcevich’s Update on Kirkwood Community College
Eric Weiler introduced Cedar Rapids Rotarian Mick Starcevich, President of Kirkwood Community College.  President Starcevich started by promoting the soon to open regional center in the U of I Research Park.  One of the first programs will serve high schools students seeking college-level instruction.  He continued to share current enrollment, program and services information about the college.

Singing:  Bob Crane with Jim Conard on the piano led the singing of America the Beautiful and Smiles.
 
Moment of Silence:  President Bruce reported the death of Hass Machlab’s father and offered the club’s condolence to Hass and family.
 
Announcements
  • Deb Pullin-Van Auken from the Iowa City AM Club urged Rotarians to act now and register for District 6000100th Conferences: Celebrating Youth to be held at the Coralville Marriot and Conference Center, April 16 – 18. Registration materials can be reached from the district website: http://www.rotary6000.org/  She also was selling tickets for the raffle for 3 exciting prizes to support the District's Youth Services Fund.
  • The Iowa City Booster Club holds an annual Pancake Day fundraiser for the purpose of supporting the athletic programs at North Central Junior High, Northwest Junior High, South East Junior High, City High, and West High Schools.  All money raised by the Booster Club helps to purchase or improve athletic training equipment, uniforms, and facilities for all sports at each of the schools.  This year’s date is Saturday, April 11, 2015, from 6:30 AM- 3:00 PM  at the West High School cafeteria.
  • President Bruce reminded Rotarians that two of the three strains of polio have been eliminated and only 3 countries still report cases: Nigeria, Afghanistan and Pakistan.  However, no cases were reported this week and only Pakistan has reported cases this calendar year.
