President Steve clarified that we have 4 new members so far during this new Rotary year.
Rtn. Devon Inman was our goat rider today.
President Steve, introduced District Governor, Tom Narak.
Tom described his professional career track. While doing so, he emphasized the importance of life-work-family balance. Tom’s challenge to our club is to invite 1 guest to a Rotary meeting this year. It will be important to the sustainability of our club. Tom also advised us to utilize young people in communicating our work through social media. He asked us to evaluate our goals for the next 3-5 years. In working toward those goals, he encouraged us to work with other Rotary Clubs.
Tom discussed his top 3 goals.
  1. Improving Literacy. He believes nothing is more valuable than a child learning to read. Without the ability to read, a child is 4x more likely to drop out of school. Tom recognized LaDonna Wicklund for her committee work in this area. Tom challenged the club, asking, “is this enough?”
  2. Child Abuse Prevention. Tom recommends that we be the eyes and ears of children’s needs in our community. If we see something, we should say something. A child suffering from abuse will struggle to learn, could struggle to read.
  3. Polio Eradication. We should finish this right.
District Governor Tom acknowledged our club’s work and commitment on several projects; cleft palate, the Ponsetti Treatment of clubfoot and Xicotepec Service trips.
After audience questions President Steve thanked DG Tom for his presentation.
The meeting ended at 1:00 pm as President Steve led the assembly in reciting The Four Way Test.
Singing: America the Beautiful & Vive le Rotary was led by Rtn. Bob Crane with Rtn. Devin van Holsteijn, on piano.
