History & Highlights
ROTARY CLUB OF OAKVILLE WEST (RCOW)
Rotary International is an organization of business and professional men and women united worldwide, who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and helps build goodwill and peace. The objective of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise.
The Rotary Club of Oakville West was charted September 12th, 1984 with 21 members and so began an exciting and enduring philanthropic organization.
In 1989, a positive change happened in the Rotary Club of Oakville West when Rotary International voted to admit women into Rotary Clubs. The Rotary Club of Oakville West was proud to be the first Oakville Rotary Club to embrace this positive change and induct women into their club in 1989.
As a club, RCOW gives back to community and over the years has contributed generously to local and international organizations and projects including eradication of Polio, water and sanitation initiatives. Locally, RCOW has raised funds to help launch amazing initiatives like The Cedarbrook Home for Kids (now the Darling Home for Kids), in 1995 founded the Oakville Awards for Business Excellence, and in 2011 sponsored the Rotaract Club at Sheridan College.
In addition, RCOW’s financial support has provided bursaries for students’ post-secondary education, supported the Oakville Hospital Foundation, Nottinghill Youth Centre, Lighthouse for Grieving Children, Camp Enterprise, RYLA, and many more worthy endeavours. As well, RCOW helped launch the Interact Club at Garth Webb High School, in addition to sponsoring the Interact Club at Iroquois Ridge.
