David Angas:  Information on Rotary Service Trip to San Miguel, Mexico for Rotarians interested in International Service, or just interested in travel. Several years ago, all 3 Oakville Rotary clubs joined together to do a Global Grant for the EEE School for the Deaf in San Miguel, Mexico. It was a very successful project and a trip is being arranged to visit the school and experience the beautiful, historic city of San Miguel.

 
This is a wonderful opportunity to see how our dollars were spent and see San Miguel (a haven for artists) as well as being hosted by local Rotarians. June Oliver is from Oakville-Trafalgar is organizing the trip for Oakville Rotarians interested in participating.
 
Currently 8 people have registered for this trip and we would like to increase the numbers. The invitation is extended to all District 7080 Rotarians. Dates are Oct 27-Nov 3 2017. If interested, please contact: June Oliver (RCOT) at: joliver65@me.com
 
David Angas:  Information on an opportunity to participate in a Rotary international project:

Rotary Club Agra TajMahal Initiative – Keep India Polio Free. Volunteers are invited to participate during “Mega Polio Campaign 2018between 5-7 January 2018.

Ron Gall:  Ron announces that ErinOakKids and Able Living Services invite RCOW members, as major supporters, to their Independent Living Program Graduation and Open House Celebration on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, 6:30 to 8PM at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) Student Centre.

James Montague: Invites all RCOW members to the Canadian Sesquicentennial Award ceremonies during the Canada Day celebrations on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 3:30PM at Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park.  James will be receiving a special sesquicentennial award.

June 6  - Carly O'Brien, Intrigue Media / Topic: How to attract and engage young leaders for the Rotary Club 
 
  • Carly O'Brien, with Intrigue Media Solution Inc. (Fred Scheuer's company) presented "Future Proofing Your Rotary Club". It will help us focus on recruiting new younger members into the Club.
  • Specifically, the message was how to attract the attention of post-boomers and millennials, who according to Carly are the first generation who have been able to create their own "customized life(style) experience through their smart phones.

June 13  - Fred Scheuer, RCOW / Topic: "Golf to Give" Annual Charity Golf Tournament
  • Fred Scheuer, RCOW Golf Chair, gave the Club an overview of the RCOW/RCO fund raising golf tournament which is in its second decade.  It is scheduled for the 3rd time at Turtle Creek Golf Club, Guelph Line north of 401, on Monday, June 26, 2017. 
  • Fred is confident that there will be well over 100 golfers and will exceed last year's fund raising total. Fred thanked to golf committee and members who are donating, playing and volunteering.  
                     
June 20, 2017 - Khal Kaylani / Topic: RCOW Guest Day
  • Khal Kaylani, RCOW's Director of Membership, led a fine presentation which highlighted Rotary International and RCOW.  The purpose was to build awareness and interest in the benefits of joining RCOW.
  • 23 RCOW members and 17 guests enjoyed Khal's informative presentation and fellow members' input on what Rotary and RCOW means to them.

June 27, 2017  - David Abboud / Topic: Review of RCOW's Rotary Year
  • David Abboud, RCOW President 2016-2017, reflected on the many RCOW activities, milestones and community donations over the past 12 months.  In attendance were 21 RCOW members and David's brother Joseph (a Rotarian in Jordan).
  • It was truly a remarkable year of fund raising and social events along with noteworthy weekly speakers.  The year was capped off at the annual Gavel Toss which David and his wife Joana hosted at their home on Sunday, July 25, 2017.  Attendance was extremely high for this annual event with Ron Gall, continuing in the tradition of BBQ'er extraordinaire. The evening was topped off with 5 new PHF awards being presented to Teri Ergun, Peter DeGroot, Karin Bergen, Les Ross and James Montague. David was thanked for a job very well done and was presented with a Past President pin and a gift from the Club
  • David specifically thanked the Directors and Club members alike for their strong support over the year.
