COVID-19 UPDATE
We recently received the following from Halton Public Health and have agreed to share information with you when it is made available to us.
“The purpose of this email is to provide you with an update on the COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Halton, and ask for your support in sharing information with your community.

The provincial government has created a three-phased vaccination plan that all public health units and hospitals must follow. The current priority is vaccinating residents, staff and essential caregivers of long-term care and retirement homes. In the coming weeks, older adults will become eligible to be vaccinated, contingent on supply.

Clinics will be located in each municipality in Halton, for more information about clinic locations visit halton.ca/COVIDvaccines. Please note that Halton COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics will only be providing vaccination to Halton residents, and that vaccination will begin with adults aged 80 years and over.

A variety of print and digital materials will be available to provide older adults with information about how they can register to receive the vaccine. We are asking for your help with distributing these materials to your community members. Our goal is to make sure that all older adults in Halton have access to the information they need to be vaccinated.

Are you willing to distribute materials about the COVID-19 vaccine registration process to your older adult community members, particularly those aged 80 and over?
If so, once the materials are prepared and ready for distribution, what is the best way for us to contact you? (editor’s note: the club email box will receive any content and we will forward to members)
.
Lastly, while communications is a key component for successful vaccination, we also recognize that older adults may need help with transportation to clinic appointments or help with registering for an appointment at a clinic. If your organization can consider providing any additional supports to your older adult community members, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for considering to support us in this important endeavor to vaccinate older adults in Halton.”

JIM'S JOTTINGS
Mirror, Mirror on the wall

Until the 1850s mirrors delivered fussy and distorted reflections. A woman, Maria Lydig, gazed upon her image in a brand new mirror in a hotel, she was upset about how lined and old she looked. Returning home she looked in her own mirror and much approved of what she saw.  It fit better with how she felt, youthful and energetic.

That little note from the past connects to the present and the divisiveness dominating so much of political discussions. The news channels, on each side of the debates reflect distorted images and messages about the present, what’s comfortable and familiar, to their audiences.
With both sides holding flawed views it is no wonder progress is so hard. Somehow the people in the middle patiently, humbly, need to help people on both sides to see clearer what is, even if it’s uncomfortable.

Actually, I feel sympathy for Maria Lydig when I look in a mirror.  I see an old time worn face.  Reality is often hard to take. But we must accept it.

NEWSLETTER CONTENT
The content for the RIOTS newsletter is solicited twice a month from club members. We depend heavily on the submission of articles, photographs and ideas to bring you the monthly missive we are so used to receiving. At times we receive updates from committee chairs on their projects and activities. At times we hear from club officers. Whenever you see a short newsletter it does not mean that nothing is going on, it just means that we will probably see more content the following month.

So please, in April, do not make a fool out of me.
