CONCERT NOVEMBER 26 AT 2 P.M ... SPEAK WITH NORMA GAMBLE FOR TICKETS
UPDATE
Breaking News; “Harbourtown Sound” Makes it….. Heading for Orlando
In a closely contested competition on Saturday Oct 28th, “Harbourtown Sound” performed their way to a first-place victory at Brantford’s Sanderson Centre, taking on some of the best choruses in Ontario, and qualified to be one of the only-30 choruses from around the world to be included in “The World Harmony Championship” in Orlando in 2018.
This marks the 5th successive year that Harbourtown has qualified for “The Worlds”, having competed in Las Vegas, Pittsburgh and Nashville in recent years.
Last year in Nashville, choruses from Australia, New Zealand, Britain, USA, and Canada qualified.
Harbourtown is a chorus of about 100 men who sing a Capella, and whose repertoire includes, pop, rock, Broadway, some country classics, and modern barbershop, from artists such as Queen, Sinatra, Simon & Garfinkel, Elvis, Leonard Cohan, The Beatles, and more.
“Harbourtown Sound” is led by Music Director Jordan Travis, recognized as one of the best directors in North America. The chorus will now begin the race to “Top 10” in the world, and will be preparing a ballad and an up-tempo song for the championship, to be held in Orlando in July 2018.
“Harbourtown” are instrumental in putting on a benefit Christmas Concert in support of Rotary Foundation’s program “Polio Plus” to eradicate polio on Nov, 26, at 2 PMin Burlington Performing Arts Centre.
Here is “Harbourtown” on stage at the Worlds in Pittsburgh,
More news about the Christmas Concert planned in support of PolioPlus, to be held November 26, 2 PM at Burlington Performing Arts Centre, (you’ll be home in time for the Grey Cup kickoff).
The big question is, Why should I go to this?
Here’s some thoughts….
•It will be a wonderful concert put on by one of the top choruses in North America. They will provide great music, clever skits that will have you laughing and cheering, and leave with a great big smile on your face, with a feeling that you just experienced something really worthwhile. This chorus, “Harbourtown Sound” is simply outstanding , having qualified for the ‘World Harmony Championship’ the last 4 years in a row, (only 30 choruses from around the world make it each year).
•Your Rotary Club benefits financially, with $25. per ticket staying with your Club, plus a share of the sponsorship money raised. This money will go towards helping each Club’s financial contribution to Rotary Foundation.
• You don’t have to sell tickets….. just attend with partner, and perhaps a couple of friends. This is ‘painless fund-raising’. And $50. for a ticket is a terrific bargain for the entertainment you’ll receive. All seats are reserved.
•Harbourtown Sound is taking the financial risk by guaranteeing the expenses. They are donating their time to give back to the community, so all net proceeds will go to the bottom line in true Rotary fashion. Let's make this a great success by selling out the theatre and supporting a wonderful Rotary initiative. Success will do a lot to ensure future similar concerts for us by “Harbourtown”
•This will be a terrific team effort by about 20 Rotary Clubs, all attending a function that could raise as much as $168,000. towards our fight in eradicating Polio . This will be the amount raised IF we sell out 700 seats, and reach our sponsorship target, (and then we will get matching funds from the Canadian Government, and the Gates Foundation). This will be a huge success for us, and Foundation.
Details; Concert Sunday Nov 26, 2 PM…… Burlington Performing Arts Centre
Parking; free parking garage connected to the BPAC…. you don’t even have to go outside
Tickets; $50., with $25. going to your Rotary Club, (plus a share of sponsor money), and most Clubs are issuing a tax receipt for $25. per ticket.
If your Club doesn’t have tickets, please contact me…. I’ll make sure the tickets are distributed through your Club, and that your Club receives the funds. John Zinke, our Ticketmaster, is making sure all Clubs get a share of the best seats, (although there are NO bad seats at BPAC),
Thanks for considering this; it will be a wonderful day to be a Rotarian, and you’ll feel uplifted about the success of this….. it’ll be one for your ‘memory bank’.
