WHERE DO YOU DROP OFF AUCTION ITEMS?

Physical Items

All physical items (i.e. anything that is not a gift certificate or gift card) should be dropped off at Bent Fink-Jensen's house at 1202 Owen Court in Oakville. Please call Bent first at 905-842-8861 so he can be prepared to greet you. This may change once we have a warehouse location.

Gift Cards

All gift cards or gift certificates should be dropped off at Bob Gardner's house at 2359 Westoak Trails Blvd. in Oakville. The driveway is off of Proudfoot Trail and there is a receptacle at the side door where you can leave your cards or certificates.  Please text or call Bob at 416-704-5748 to let him know that you are leaving or have left items.

HELPING THE AUCTION WITH POINTS
Helping the Auction – An easy and effective way to do so from your home
Cashing Loyalty Points for Gift Cards for Rotary Auction

Are your loyalty points about to expire? If so, here is an easy and effective way support the auction and you do not have to even leave your home.

We all know it’s been a tough year, what with Covid and all its consequences. It has been particularly difficult for our club to raise money, since RIBFEST, our major fundraiser was cancelled. It has tasked us to find innovative ways to raise funds. So here is an idea that you can do to support the ROTARY ONLINE AUCTION.

How many of us plan to travel in the next six months to a year? Very Few. Yet we all have Loyalty points of one kind or another, AND SOME OF THOSE LOYALTY POINTS ARE GOING TO EXPIRE BEFORE WE CAN USE THEM.
Why not use them to purchase gift cards you can donate to the auction…..?

Most Rotarians and their friends have accumulated tens of thousands of points, and these are not being cashed for travel, etc. due to COVID.  Some will expire soon without being utilized.  So, the Procurement team is encouraging Rotarians and their friends to cash these points for $100 or $50 store gift cards: Home Hardware, The Bay, Food Basics, etc. and donate them to the Rotary Auction. Bidders / purchasers of these cards will help our Club raise funds, as well as support local businesses.
The process for cashing loyalty points is quite straight forward.
  1. Logon to the loyalty program; ascertain how many points you have and how many you would like to give.  Most sites list the conversion rate for various gift cards; for example, 14,000 Aeroplan points for a $100 Home Hardware gift card.
  2. Select one or more gift cards that are interest you and order therm.  You will receive the cards in the mail in a few days.
  3. Drop them off at Bob Gardner’s house, or request a Procurement Team member team member to pick them up from your place and do it on your behalf.
  4. Congratulate yourself for having supported The Rotary Online Auction
Do it today and help make our auction a success. Remember – We can’t turn ‘Action’ into a ‘Auction’ without “U!”

JIM'S JOTTINGS
Astounding

The story of Rotary is astounding. At home and abroad, embracing all races and faith, year after year, in peace and war, we have accomplished so much. From helping to start the United Nations to providing clean water in remote villages; from a worldwide polio eradication to giving primary school children dictionaries, etcetera, excreta.

We have earned the respect of many; doors are opened to us that are closed to others.

How has Rotary managed to accomplish all these things? Are we smarter than other people? Not really. Are we richer? More resilient?  Is it because we operate at the grass roots level?

The reason can be summed up in one word, integrity. In a world where corruption runs wild, where greed is deemed necessary and sensible, in a time of secret deals, money laundering, cash handed under the table, where the fight for prestige and power we are known to be incorruptible and sincere, as people with no hidden agendas.

Our secret is we live by Rotary’s motto, “Service above Self”. We are known for our moral fiber, as we uphold our “Four Way Test”, our “Code of Conduct’, which call us to “Act with integrity and high ethical standards”. We hold these things not as something written down on paper to be trotted out every once in a while, but it is what we live by day by day.

Recognizing this source of our strength, every copy of the Rotarian magazine includes a column stating our moral and ethical foundation.  A must read for us all.

BOTTLE DRIVE

Got too many wine bottles, beer cans and beer bottles cluttering up the place? You can help.

We would love your empties (all deposit-return bottles and cans)!  It would be preferable if you could drop the bottles at one of our 4 drop-off locations:

1.         1480 Seagram Ave. (Bronte residence) – leave in front of right garage door

2.         428 Donnybrook Rd. (SE Oakville residence) – leave in front of garage

3.         1202 Owen Court (north central Oakville, sixth line/McCraney residence) – leave in front of garage

4.         Film.ca (171 Speers Rd. between Dorval and Kerr)  There are 3 bins available.

If that option doesn’t work for you, or if you have large volumes, we will be glad to pickup! EMAIL bottledrive@rcot.ca
All proceeds will go to domestic and international charitable causes including COVID-19 relief.

When you help Rotary, it helps us help others
