A founding member of our club, Joe Vet passed away peacefully Sat night at the age of 96. Of Dutch birth, raised during WWII, he immigrated to Canada with his wife in the mid-fifties. He settled in Oakville, had 3 children, where he eventually opened the Violet Flower Shop on Lakeshore Road. He was instrumental in the development of the Downtown Business Improvement Area in the late 70’s and by the 80’s sold his business and began a career in Real Estate.
He was a formidable contributor to the success of our club developing our “Roses for Thanksgiving” fundraiser. He travelled extensively around the world, to India and beyond with “Sleeping Children Around the World”, a charity supported by Rotary.
More than that however, he was an example for all of us, in fact everyone he met, an example of kindness, caring, love mixed with strength, determination and strength of will. A loving and lovely man who will sorely be missed by family friends and Rotarians alike.

Friday July 25, 2025, 11 am, St. Andrews Catholic Church, 47 Reynolds St, Oakville. Flowers are greatly encouraged and will be given to surrounding retirement homes afterwards. Donations to Sleeping Children Around the World would be greatly appreciated.
