Jacqueline Madogo’s journey to the Olympic stage is a story of determination, resilience, family and an unwavering belief that where you start does not have to determine where you finish.

Jacqueline grew up playing soccer and didn’t make the switch to track and field until she was 20 years old. It didn’t take long for her natural speed and determination to make it clear that she belonged on the track.

Today, Jacqueline is one of Canada’s leading sprinters, competing in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay. She made her Olympic debut at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, representing Canada in all three events and becoming an Olympic finalist.

Since Paris, Jacqueline has continued to establish herself among the world’s best sprinters. She has represented Canada at the NACAC Championships, World Championships and World Relays, advancing to finals and playing an important role on Canada’s sprint teams.

In 2025, Jacqueline reached another major milestone when she became a World Relay Gold Medalist, winning gold in the mixed 4x100m relay. Her performances have continued to demonstrate not only her extraordinary speed, but the determination and work ethic behind it.

But Jacqueline’s story is about far more than medals.

Growing up, her family did not have an abundance of material wealth. What they did have was an abundance of love, determination and resilience.

Her parents worked tirelessly to provide their family with the basics and create opportunities for a better future. They learned English, adapted to a new culture and sacrificed their own needs to build a foundation for their children.

Jacqueline watched it all.

Their example became part of who she is.

“My parents’ unwavering belief in me helped me keep pushing forward even when things seemed impossible.”

That belief has carried Jacqueline through the challenges of becoming an elite athlete. Even as she pursued her athletic career, she has worked approximately 25 hours a week while training more than 20 hours each week - a remarkable commitment that speaks to the work ethic she learned from her parents.

Financial barriers have also been part of her journey. Access to elite training, travel and competition is expensive, and Jacqueline has not always had the resources that many high-performance athletes require.

That is where CAN Fund and CAN Fund #150Women makes a difference.

As a multiple-time CAN Fund recipient, Jacqueline has experienced firsthand what it means to have people stand beside an athlete before the spotlight arrives. CAN Fund support has helped her continue to train, travel and compete at the highest level.

Today, Jacqueline is an Olympian, a World Relay Gold Medalist and a multiple-time member of Canadian World Championship teams.

But perhaps her greatest achievement is the example she represents.

Jacqueline Magodo is proof that love, determination and resilience can overcome enormous obstacles and that sometimes the difference between an athlete with potential and an athlete who reaches the world stage is simply having someone believe in them and stand beside them along the way.
