President Gerry opened the meeting at 07:30 and greeter Tom shared some inspiration.

Announcements:

Mike Gula – Auction: My first time as co-chair, committee met 2 weeks ago (thanks to Judy Goodnow for helping) and we are tweaking our logo “Reach for the Stars” that will be used for solicitation letters. Important dates to remember: NOVEMER 6^TH – 9^TH, please think about businesses you patronize for donations. Sending letters is the trigger for the club that we’re off to the races for the auction!
Tanya Frost – Concerts: good turnout, about 80 attendees (it was hot may have impacted attendance), $142 for 50/50 raffle, noted competition from Concord last week. Concert series doing well.
Ken Moulton – District golf tournament coming up at Laconia Country Club, see Ken to sign up. Tanya seconded that club puts on a good program and great lunch. Proceeds to benefit the Amigos.
Pres Gerry – Postponing card game to get the rules lined out. Should be ready to roll out in about three weeks. Met with Michelle Fortin and Dick Swett on suggestion to lead community effort to cut a path around the town pond. Dave Farr mentioned there was an existing path – Gerry videoed it while there is a sign indicating a trail, it is a rough path with makeshift bridges. Dick would provide renderings as architect. Had a follow-up call and explained the conditions. Bottom line for our club is we would first be required to obtain a wetland permit. Anticipate $20K just for study. Also, the trail not as close to water as initially thought. Based on this, abandoning the project (potential cost up to $900K all-in).

Pres Gerry took the program time to talk about a few things.

My Rotary

We spend considerable time with new members, including providing an orientation but realize our some of our membership may need updated information.

Of note is that 1/3 of our club have not signed into the My Rotary site (16 members have never signed in). The sign-in is the same as Club Runner. This resource provides us all with a wide variety of useful information. www.myrotary.org

Gerry navigated through the website to showcase a wealth of information: events, resources, council, branding, etc. Important when we get into projects. There’s new branding that is very different than what our club uses. There are a lot of guidelines we need to review and get up to date on including how to use marketing to advance Rotary. Encouraged new members and those who haven’t yet logged into the site to just take 20 minutes now and then to explore the site. Benefit for all members to read about what is happening beyond our club especially regarding the foundation and international to see how much good is being done by Rotarians around the world.

Robbie added: Check out the Learning Center on the site that also provides workshops on business skills that you can use beyond Rotary. My Rotary it is very worthwhile resource!

Hooksett Satellite Club – Compiling a list of what each club’s responsibilities.

Club Goals – We haven’t participated in setting club goals these last couple of years but would have to set some now to be eligible for grants, e.g. club membership goal is 47 now we’re at 58, and for Interact the goal is to add at least 2 new members. Another goal is service participation including how many new members will participate? Everybody! It has been at least 4 or 5 years since we had service goals. Newer members have especially expressed interest in social activities.

Gerry met with Michelle as a co-chair of the membership team on a survey to understand what the members would like and he has $2000 budgeted. Some ideas range from a BBQ to fall tour to Mt. Washington, events could be simple or anything the membership supports.

Restoring online presence for fellowship, Tanya and Vanessa looking into getting our back up on Facebook.

Vision Plan – Committee will review the goals that are forward looking five years

Club By-Laws – Being re-written to include the Hooksett club

President Gerry closed the meeting with a toast to Rotary the world over.
