Announcements:
  • President Dave Scanlan started the meeting and said more information about the Car show and Roadside pickup would be coming soon.
  • Today’s meeting was a first for Bow Rotary – as all in attendance were meeting via Zoom, a virtual meeting interface.
Program:

Chris Parkinson introduced Randell Barclay.
Randell is the District Treasure and member of Wallingford Vt ., Rotary Club.  He did a power point presentation about the Tygerberg Global Grant. The Goal was to help the Tygerberg Free Hospital pediatric department in South Africa. The largest killer of children in South Africa is either TB or HIV and a lung scope machine would help the doctors.  Randell introduced Helene Visser a member of the Blouberg Club district 9350 that has 44 members. She was on the call and Randell explained her expertise in fund raising and arm twisting. She helps Randell create the grant from scratch.
Randell got 10 clubs in Vermont to donate and an individual matched the clubs. Bow was one of the clubs from New Hampshire that donated $1,000 toward the grant. Our district 7870 raised $ 100,000 and 3 weeks later in October the International matched the grant to $ 192,858.
The group now is creating a Friendship exchange between 7870 and Cape Town, South Africa. Chris Parkinson will head up the incoming group but it is on hold for now till Covid 19 has passed.

Respectfully submitted,
Ken Moulton
