President Gale announced Recognition night is Thursday, June 1 at the Baker Free Library – Rotary Room. This event will be instead of the normal Friday, June 2 meeting. 

 

Gerry Carrier announced a few results from the Car Show:

David Gazaway mentioned that he repeatedly called the port-a-potty  place but had no pull with them even though their name was Dave’s Port-a-Potties.

Thanks were given all around for the efforts of Gerry and David and the members.  Specifically mentioning Gerry helping a broken down 1953 truck, stuck right in the driveway.  He not only crawled under the truck to fix it, he showed the owner how to fix it! 

May 19, 2018 is next year’s car show.

 

Tom Ives finally gave us the lowdown of the year. He had a good year both at work and home.  The bindery has been in business 75 years, with him at the helm for 45 years.  The kids are doing well.  His son Sam’s wife is expecting a baby next month.  His other son, Patrick got married this past year.  We all know who he married.

 

Jon Hanson had a birthday May 24.  He has two boys in the military.  One is in the Presidents 100 group in Arkansas and the other one is a test pilot.  His 22 year old son works on high rise construction jobs.  His 2 year old grandson called him “Grand Pa Bow” and lets people know he wants “Grand Pa Bow” during stressful moments.

 

Fines:  A few members put money on the table.  Definitely R&T Electric.

 

Happy Bucks:    

Judy Goodnow met with the Bow Community Group last Wednesday and many of the groups are happy to contribute some money towards our town map.  Late summer the maps are targeted to be printed.  She also mentioned the Bow Garden Club plant sale is 8 to 12 at the community center.  But better get there by 10 to buy plants.

 

Linda Lorden was happy because she got to spend 5 days at Disney with her son, daughter-in-law and 2 grandsons.  A little disappointed when she was told they were going to see the Chippendales and they weren’t exactly the Chippendales she was expecting.

 

President Gale was happy because Judy Goodnow filled in for her last week and very happy because her grandson, after spending 1 ½ weeks at Chad Hospital, was back home.  He even had to spend his birthday there.

 

Sandy Eldredge gave $2 happy bucks.  One for working with an awesome, very energetic Judy at the car show concession stand and the other for a very nice dinner with the Men’s Club on Thursday night. 

 

Rick Minard was happy because he went to his niece’s wedding at Chapel Hill, but he missed the car show because of it.

 

Michelle Fortin gave $2 happy bucks. One for Steve Lauwers meeting her at 5:45 am to set up road signs and one for Brook graduating from Tufts on Sunday and getting 2 job offers!

 

Jon Ruggles gave a happy $5 for using the tickets his daughter gave him to visit her in Whitney, TX for 10 days.  He golfed every day.  Then he started his make-ups with an auction meeting.

 

Tamar Roberts ran the New Brunswick 8 kilometer, which turned into 9 kilometer race and she finished.  Then she hiked before heading back to NH.

 

Raffle:  Rick Minard had the winning ticket but not the winning card.

 

Program:  

Robert Louf introduced Memorial School principal Adam Osburn and Penney Maurer.

Adam discussed the BMS Wildcat Habitat area.

Why- The current “play area” was badly in need of betterment.  It was not a safe space for children. 

What- The vision was to have a multiuse space where all age groups could find a place to better themselves with a specific aim towards 10 to 14 year olds.  A local company helped to design it.

He wanted some classes to be held out there.  The design has decking enough to fit a whole class or fans overlooking the playing fields.  The PE teacher can hold classes out there, connecting it to fitness programs.  There is an amphitheater with a small stage designed in.   Teacher Sue Pribis asked her class to design a play area for kids and many of the ideas are in this design.

How to get involved- The selectmen have partner shipped with the school to help provide some needed equipment to develop the area.  What is now needed is money or material donations.  The full cost without material donations is $140,000.  The current goal is to raise $70,000 which may be enough if many of the materials are donated.  Currently they have $20,000. You can donate money or buy a brick by logging onto the Bow Memorial School website and following the instructions. Donating material is another very good option.  Adam circulated a list of what is needed.

The goal is to have this started in late August or early September.  Adam noted that the ability and cost to maintain the grounds is well within the schools capabilities.

 

A book was signed by Adam and the meeting was closed by President Gale at 8:34am.
