Announcements:
Jon Ruggles announced the need for an extra golfer for the August 18 tournament for “Pure Water for Haiti” at Bretwood (North) Golf Course in Keene. Apparently, Matt Dodge’s financee had other plans for him.
Sunday’s Concert - Ben Kiniry needs a volunteer for MCing. Michelle Fortin stepped up to help. Dick Swett, who was supposed to work the concert had forgotten that there was to be a wedding at his house on Sunday!!
Fines:

Happy Bucks:
Dave Scanlon for working the concert for the Canyon Run Band, the great turn out (easily 140 people) and for the $101 for the 50/50 raffle.
Steve DeStefano’s daughter Kimberley came home after a year working with the Jesuit Volunteer Group . And also for learning to play golf in Florida in 95 degreeswith 81 percent humidity! The best part was fewer people playing.
Dave Gazaway Happy $5 for working the concert with Dave Scanlon. Dave was very polite and professional MCing. A third person was a ‘no show’ for his concert duty…Mark Lavalle. Mark told his wife he knew he was in trouble because firstly, it was Dave Gazaway he was standing up and secondly the Summer Concert chair person was Ben Kiniry, Sargent at Arms.
Alan Kanegsberg for his son, Phillip, running with a team of 10 in a 184 mile relay. Also for his grandson, Torston, and his Mom cycling in a team of 4.
Peter Imse happy for daughter Joanna getting married. It was also a wonderful family gathering. A happy dollar (sort of) for the team of people that oversaw the special
election vote, where everything that could go wrong did, but everyone chipped in and made things go smoothly in spite of all the problems. AND Best of all…no one let Peter know until it was over.
Dean Cascadden is looking forward to their family reunion in Whitefield this coming weekend. Dean and his lovely wife are going on vacation next week to include Quebec.
Ken Moulton played Senior pickle ball with Paul Zaffini and won the doubles. Ken and his lovely wife Jackie won the Gold!
Raffle: Karen Wadsworth won the draw, but sadly not the $.
PROGRAM:
Stephanie Harpring gave a talk about her Rotary Exchange Student Experience. She is also a parent of one of our Early-Act students. Stephanie was introduced to Rotary early in life, as her parents always had Rotary Exchange students at the house growing up. She became a RES herself and did her school year in Caracas, Venezuela. She had a very nice host family. She went to a Catholic private school there, the 1st exchange student ever. No one spoke English, and she did not speak Spanish. Biology was her favorite class, as the language barrier was made easier.
It was a very rewarding experience for her. In fact, it lead her to her present career path. She became fluent in Spanish. She went to UNH, then Boulder, CO, then Santiago, Chili and back to Colorado to teach. She earned an MA degree in ESL and now teaches Spanish at John Stark High School in Weare.
It was the best thing she could have done, although she didn’t always think that at the time. She was not always the best student in school, but because of her experience she teaches her own kids to be the best they can be and that grades are important.
President Judy closed the meeting with "A Toast to Rotary the World Over."
