Announcements:

President Bryant announced that the program next week will center on the car show. Also, today is the second announcement of Bill Ames for new membership into the club.
Mike Griffin recently had a make-up at the Hopkinton club, and talked about their upcoming golf tournament, to be held on Friday June 21 @ 4:30pm – Beaver Meadow Golf Club. All types of opportunities. For more information contact Hopkinton member Paul Bliss at 568-7531
Skip Poole asked members to get in their nominations for the upcoming Bow Community Recognition Night – happening June 14^th, 5:30 pm at the Baker Free Library. Nominations are due by May 21
Gerry Carrier gave an update on the ‘all-hands-on-deck’ car show – being held (rain or shine) next Saturday, May 18. Set up will occur Friday evening and early Saturday morning. Please contact Gerry if you are able to assist. Also remember to get in your money if you purchased (or would like to purchase) a 2019 collectible edition car-show T-Shirt. Only a few of these shirts will ever be printed
Donna Deos updated the club on the recent District Conference. Apparently every attending member received a nice Rotary coffee mug – and she had President Bryant’s and Alan Kanegsberg’s, as they had to leave the conference early.

Tamar Roberts is happy to be back (although she is turning right around and heading to New Brunswick for a running race)
Chris Parkinson gave accolades to the recently held District conference
Steve DeStefano was happy to see some fellow friends (and previous Rotarians) for their annual Red Sox outing.
Paul Mercier is happy that the roofers are done at his new house
Dean Cascadden will be happy to see our very own Lee Kimball awarded at the next Superintendent’s conference.
Noreen Christensen is happy to be back at her “home” club. Welcome back Noreen!
Jeannie Richards had a wonderful trip to see her grandchild
Gerry Carrier was pressured….wait - I meant to say felt compelled……wait – no, I mean he was just happy to see Noreen
Jon Ruggles was happy that the Boys & Girls Club Golf Tournament was held on one of the two days in the recent month that saw sun! As a result they even set a record for dollars raised.

Program:
Tom Wilson introduced fellow Rotarian Dave Scanlan to speak on the topic of state primaries. Dave – as many know – is NH’s acting Deputy Secretary of State. In the 2020 Presidential election, NH will mark its 100^th anniversary of being the first in the union primary state. Dave mentioned that there are currently over 20 candidates on the Democrat side of the ballot, and as many are currently travelling throughout the state – it allows for residents to get to know candidates at a more personal level. Some of the benefits to our ‘First In The Nation” status: It forces candidates to reach out to a variety of voters. NH residents are not afraid to ask tougher questions, keeping the candidates on their ‘A’ game. And it is relatively easy to get on the primary ballot, meaning that a wider array of candidate can result.

Dave wrapped up with questions and by indicating that future years could continue to see challenges to our primary status – especially as states bring on new technologies and alternatives ways to casting a ballot.
