If nice weather there will be a “Classic Antique” 1948 Rolls Royce at the show!

 

Mark Lavalle had a great birthday year.  He’s so old that 1) He is celebrated his 50^th  Valentine’s Day with his wife 2) His first grandchild, Lexi, was born on his birthday date and now she’s 20. 3) Dick Bean was his sponsor into the club in 1987.

Tom Ives and Bob Dawkins had birthdays but they were not there to share them with us.

 

Happy Bucks:    

Harry Judd mentioned that the Boy Scouts are collecting for their annual yard sale.  Bring your donations to the community center Tuesdays in May from 7-8:30 pm, email yardsaletroop75@gmail.com to arrange for a pick-up. No hazardous items please.

Jeff Kipperman had a very happy after tax season trip visiting the Mediterranean with his wife.

Tom Wilson was happy that Dick Bean sponsored him in the club 23 years ago.

Chris Parkinson brought 4 of his 6 grandchildren to the Earth Dinosaur Show.  The oldest granddaughter got up on stage and recited a joke “How come you can’t hear a Pterodactyl go to the bathroom?  Because the “P” is silent.”

Alan Kanegsberg announced he has collected $200 short of $100,000 in brick donations to build the Rotary wheel.  Started in 2008, the cost has been about $30,000.

Dean Cascadden shaved off his goatee and mustache upon his wife’s request after he was compared to Dave Gazaway……  He’s trying to go for a younger look.

Steve DeStefano told us that the Interact students picked up 21 bags of roadside trash last weekend.  Great group of kids!

Dave Stack announced he liked Mark Lavelle’s 50 year’s accomplishment, he just brought in Bow’s first FT fire chief, Michael Harrington, plus they are up to the point of paving the Safety Building parking lot.  This project is finally getting completed.

Peter Imse mentioned that he didn’t have a pin and on a happy note he just got back from a vacation ion Sanibel Island with 3 of his grandchildren, but then had to go back to work.

Program:  

Rotary member introducing speaker: Jeannie Richards introduced Bob Stanley who is a SCORE mentor.  Previously he was in the insurance business.

 

Program topic:  SCORE (previously known as Service Core of Retired Executives) program.

SCORE is 53 years old.  There are 300 chapters nationwide, 6 in NH.  There are 13,000 members, 200 in NH.  Bob’s Merrimack Valley chapter has 55 members.  Typically members work about 4 to 6 hours per week.  Bob works about 20 hours.  SCORE is partially funded by the SBA.

 

Used to be known as an “old men’s club” but not anymore.  More women are joining.  To become a member you must go through some training and annually get recertified and sign a code of ethics. 

 

The members are mentors, not consultants, for businesses that request their guidance on how to better run their business or how to start up a business.  Typically people have requested their services when they are thinking of doing a startup. 

 

SCORE is interested in expanding their services with ongoing businesses.  They call this program COMPASS and have information and an application online about this area.  Currently they are running a COMPASS contest for businesses that want to grow.  The prize is $10,000.

 

 There is no fee for their mentoring services.  These can be in person, skype or email.  There is a small fee for the workshops.  They also have many resource materials on their website, free of charge and publish a monthly newsletter.
