Grant giving of $1000 was donated by charitable giving Gary Shirk and Ann Dippold from their doner advised fund to be used wherever needed.

May 19^th is the cornhole tournament at 6 pm at Alan’s restaurant.

1^st grade reading books at the elementary schools in Bow & Dunbarton is next Friday the 15^th.

May 16^th is the annual car show.  We are in need of 5 coolers for the car show.

June 11^th is our awards night at the Baker Free Library.

Summer concert series is all set with 5 different bands starting July 16^th Thursday’s.

May 18^th at 6 pm is the next board meeting at Tanya Frost’s home at 4 Sullivan Dr.

Birthdays: Tom Ives - Grateful to be alive and retired.  He is proud of his sons.  Married for 43 years now.  Works for his younger son binding books for 4 hours a day.

Ken Moulton was grateful to be seen and not “viewed” today.  He is alive and kicking. 

Judy Goodnow is happy about the return of the loons and awake listening to their calls.

Mike Ard is back from Texas where he welcomed his 1^st grandson Duncan.  Mike is so happy to be back in NH where the air is so fresh.

Peter Imse is happy about his extended trip to Sanibel Island and loved it and is glad to be back.

Bob Couch is back from his annual RV trip to NC for a visit with his family.  Loved the RV trip that he took no highways. 

Barbara Griffin is back from Maryland visiting her 89 year old dad who is dealing with health issues.  She had to go thru all his stuff that he has accumulated over the decades, and her son went with her and picked up his grandfather’s Chevy Silverado.  She came back to NH to rest for she is exhausted.

Gerry Carrier had a harsh week.  Apologized about the mistake of announcing that Ken Moulton had died.  He spent the week apologizing to Ken and fellow Club members. 

Eric Anderson is happy about his new glasses and his vision has improved after his cataract surgery.

 

Program: Classification talks by Barbara Griffin & Ryan Anastasi as speakers. 

Barbara Griffin talked first about her work journey through her life.  She has taken an unconventional path.  Wanted to be a writer for Time Magazine.  Grew up in Maryland where minimum wage was $3.10 an hour in 1980.  Her first job was in a toy factory.  Worked on assembly lines in the toy factory and it was very mundane work.  Next job was at the Navy Station with a security clarence in Maryland.  Worked next in DC at a bank with foreign accounts. She worked as a minority working with all African Americans.  This experience helped shape her empathy toward minorities.  Her next job was mother and military spouse.  Was living in Alabama at that time as a military spouse and kept the house in order.  Went to college at night.  Lived in Germany for a while. She loved being part of military life. “I am strong, I am smart and I can figure things out.”  Had to transition into a single mother while in Texas.  Worked at a Citco oil and gas refinery plant of for a while and had a boss who was a mentor and was like a father figure for her and helped her reach her potential with his help and support.  He pushed her to new limits as a person.

 

Ryan Anastasi went second and discussed his experience studying abroad in Italy while in college 9 years ago at UNH.  He was there in Italy for 3 months while he was a student at UNH completing his business degree.  He studied Eco gastronomy in Italy for an entire semester.  He visited all over Italy and lived in apartment with classmates and was emersed in the Italian culture.  He studied pasta making at a factory and olive oil that was freshly pressed the same day. 

Now he will honeymoon in France and in Italy after his wedding in just 5 weeks.  His schedule was 9-12pm Monday through Thursday. Then there was a 12-3pm break for naps.  Then 3-6pm was another class.  He always had 3 day weekends to explore in Italy.  He loved meeting so many different people from all over the world.  He shared online pictures from the UNH Italy Students Facebook page. 

 

President Dick closed the meeting with a toast to Rotary the world over.
