President Gale called the meeting to order promptly at 7:30am.
Our stand in Greeter was Paul Mercier (as Dave Gazaway was late! …and apparently unaware of being the scheduled greeter). Paul took us through the invocation, Dave took over for welcoming Guests – one of whom, our speaker, he actually did greet and welcome!

Announcements:
Mike Griffin announced that Roadside Pick-up for 4/15/17 at 8:30am has all 14 spots filled!
Steve DeStefano then announced that Interact is doing their pick-up the same day at the same time so we just lost Dick Swett and Steve DeStefano to that. We need 2 more people to let Mike know they can do our Route 3A route with us please and thank you.
Paul Rizzi reminded everyone that next Tuesday, March 28th is our “4 Way Test Speech Contest” at White Rock. Please come around 6:30pm – unless you are on the setup crew, which is arriving at 5:30pm. There are 3 Contestants signed up right now. The Committee is: Karen Wadsworth, Rick Minard, Chris Nicolopoulos, Dean Cascadden and Bob Couch (Plus Paul Rizzi, of course). Judges will be Gale Kenison, Donna Deos, Betsey Patten and Mark from Grappone. The Timer is Rick Minard. Cookies are being provided by Judy Goodnow & ___? [I know, I’m missing things this week! Sorry.]
Dick Swett announced that the deadline for school supplies and back packs for the Interact El Salvador project has been extended to next Friday. Please bring your donations to the club meeting next Friday. He also thanked Harry Judd for his contribution of 3 backpacks.
Peter Imse announced that today there will be a recount of the school board race. So if you’d like to experience a recount come on by!
Pres. Gale announced that our greeter next week will be Tom Ives. Bob Couch also mentioned that it is always listed at the end of the weekly meeting notes that are emailed to all of us, in case we are ever wondering when we are up!
Fines/Birthdays and Happy Bucks:
“Charles” (we all know him as “Chuck”) Rheinhardt had a Birthday and paid a late buck. He said it was a good year. He successfully overcame some health issues and survived the first year of his wife’s retirement. She still regularly asks him what exactly it is that he does, but he’s found her a job as a substitute teacher so she’s out of the house more now.
Gerry Carrier was happy that the Eric Anderson listed in the obituaries was not our Eric, but rather Eric Anderson Johnson – phew! Eric was also pleased with this, as were we all.
Matt Dodge gave a Happy $20 because his girlfriend agreed to marry him last weekend. Congratulations Matt!
Chris Parkinson was happy to go to a game with his Grandson. They were almost 2 hours early, so had lots of quality time. Chris worked his magic and got them into the stadium early so they could watch warm up too.
Bob Couch was happy to have good friends: Bill McGonagle and Dave Foote who helped him with a road trip to get a very heavy table saw.
Judy Goodnow was happy for her nice trip to DC to see her son and his wife. They did several tours of DC and she told us about an extravagant $500,000 party that some lady was holding at one of the destinations.
Linda Lorden paid a logo fine for Merrimack County Savings Bank.
Rob Werner paid a logo fine in honor of his wife as he was wearing a BU jersey, her alma mater.
Matt Gatzke paid a happy buck for the annual visit from his brother and sister for his birthday. He also remembered, thanks to that visit, to write the check and get his driver’s license renewed!
Karen Wadsworth paid a happy buck because her daughter is coming Tuesday for a week’s visit to cheer her up.
Dave Gazaway was late and paid for that (throughout the meeting and in many ways). He thanked Paul Mercier for filling in for him. He made it clear that we all knew he greeted our speaker, which is very important. He also announced that the car show has 15 pre-registered already. They also have tee-shirts for sale this year so anyone interested in pre-ordering, let him know.
Ken Moulton paid a whine buck because he’s had no opportunity to wear his UNH jersey lately and cannot even remember where he’s left.
Raffle: Ken Moulton had the winning ticket but then pulled the 10 of Clubs.
Speaker:
Steve DeStefano introduced our speaker, Jim Kaufman, Certified Master Athletic Administrator (CMAA) and Bow School District Athletic Administrator from July 1996 to June 2017. Jim lived in Bow for 29.5 years (prior to Steve selling his house and moving him and his wife Carole to a condo near Hooksett as they will be retiring to NC after this school year). They have 3 children: Jess, Matt and Julia.
Jim started out with a happy buck for being our speaker. He sees many friends and familiar faces in the audience.
He handed out program books (“with pictures for Dave” Pres. Gale said).
He started out as a Wrestling Coach at Concord High, after leaving the business world and walked us through his career from then until now. He was a member of the committee picking sports for Bow High when it was being developed. This committee picked the sports that would be offered. The next committee was building the philosophy of the Bow sports program and this is where they decided it should have its own Administrator and not just be another task for the Assistant Principal as students need to bond with the head of the program rather than fear them (as the principals have the task of disciplinary actions).
They sold a “multiple sports theory” then which really does make the kids better at their primary sport. They now sell more of a “two sports” program instead.
During his tenure Bow has won 68 State Championships.
He thanked the support of the local businesses over the years for helping to strengthen the programs offered at Bow as well as the quality of the Score Boards and such. He mentioned Delta Dental and Merrimack County Savings Bank but apologized to any he left out as there are many. He also mentioned the support of the Booster Club and some of our club members for a variety of activities.
It was a lovely program and very nice to have him walk us through his years at Bow, all the while a pictorial slide show of the kids and teams played behind him accentuating the points of his speech.
