Announcements:
Gerry Carrier announced the Car Show Saturday, May 20
Discussed timing, shifts, parking and food. But it will be over by the time you read this so I’m not going into details.
Dean Cascadden announced Recognition night is Thursday, June 1 at the Baker Free Library – Rotary Room.
This will be instead of the normal Friday, June 2 meeting. It will emphasize the ideals of Rotary. He suggested it would be a good time to bring guests or potential members.
Judy Goodnow reminded us that next Thursday the Men’s Club invited us to a dinner at the Old Town Hall. 6 pm start time, 7 pm dinner. Please let her or Warren Perry know if you are going to attend. She also announced that if Bow Rotary members want to request a change in membership let her know by June 15. That is the deadline for FY2017-18 changes.
Birthdays:
Bob Dawkins had a birthday and spent it in Sanibel Island. Home and business are doing well. He is happy to be working at the car show. Bob also announced that David Gazaway’s birthday was yesterday (Thursday).
Birthday boy Tom Ives was at the meeting but had left already.
David Gazaway’s birthday announcement was that he had a good year. 29 days doing a cross country RV trip with his wife and 2 kids was good. The boys are awesome. Dillon has been a teenager for 6 months. David is looking forward to the car show and loves being in Rotary.

Sandy Eldredge gave a happy $5 for Jeff Kipperman helping her daughter out with an urgent tax question in April. Sandy should have also announced that May 19th was her and Bob’s 33rd wedding anniversary, but she forgot to!
Dave Scanlan announced his daughter is graduating from UNH tomorrow and is doing an internship at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. After 8 years, no more tuition checks need to written!
Tamar Roberts was upset that she got the car show dates wrong and now she is doing an 8k ran in the Bay of Fundy tomorrow.
Mike Griffin announced that they are no longer empty nesters. Andrew is back from St. Michaels and is living with them while he interns at HL Turner in an engineering position.
Noreen Christensen announced that anyone who isn’t working at the car show tomorrow has to work at the auction.
Bryant Stevener announced that he was very glad he attended Durwood Sargent‘s wedding last Saturday.
Dave Stack was very glad his son walked the red carpet at the Con Film Festival because of his digital media connection/expertise.
Dean Cascadden announced that he is no longer an empty nester either. His son, Carter, is doing an internship for Concord Insurance Group. His focus will be in actuarial science and accounting.

Program:
Harry Judd introduced Mitchell Harrington - our new and first full-time Fire Chief.
Mitchell has a BA in business administration, has been a volunteer fireman for 15 years and a Gilmanton EMT. He has been working in Bow since 2000. He has been very thorough in his work on the Bow Public Safety Building.
Mitchell did an excellent job of informing us about his department. Below are some of the topics he touched on.
His fire department employment is 7 FT, 7 per diem and 2 people on duty 24/7.
He would like to strengthen the per diem, become more efficient with less overtime and have more depth.
Mitchell is on duty M-F on shifts as needed and on the floor. Last year as Deputy Chief he logged in 256 hours.
There are 25 call volunteer people. These people are hard to come by. They can’t afford to live in Bow on their own.
There are 3 classes of call people: 1) Active 2) Restricted 3) Support
The number of calls since 2006 has remained about the same, just over 1,000. 60% are EMS calls. No charge for the false alarms, which is the second most active calls. He does look into why they are happening to help prevent them.
Mitchell is not requesting and more capital purchases this year.
The have: 2 ambulances, 2 pumpers, 2 tankers, 1 brush truck, 1 rescue truck 1 SUV and 1 boat.
Mitchell is looking into in the future possibly cutting down on the number of trucks by having multi-purpose trucks.
Yes there is an uptick in opioid calls in Bow.
On the fire prevention side Mitchell will not change the current fire codes. He hopes to do more safety inspections and review building safety aspects as the community develops. He would also like to work more with the Bow businesses to provide OSHA, CPR and other training.
The new Bow Safety Building will be ready 6/5/17. Watch for news of when the open house is.
A book was signed by Mitchell and the meeting was closed by Judy Goodnow at 8:31am.
