Announcements:
  • Mike Griffin – Roadside pick-up was a great success, with 74 bags of trash collected! Thank you to Bryant who stepped up and filled in for Mike who was out of town, and thank you to all Rotarians who participated in the day.
  • Gerry Carrier and Dave Gazaway– The car show is moving along nicely. We still need help with parking and kitchen crew.  Goodie bags will be assembled Wednesday evening.  Please be prepared to help at the event, which will be held “rain or shine, unless it’s pouring.” Fifty-seven cars are already pre-registered, which is seven more than this time last year. Dave predicts 180 cars for the event.  If you ordered a T-Shirt, please bring money to the next meeting.
  • Rick Minard – Please consider signing up to help with the first grade read-ins, as help is still needed.  The dates are May 24th for Bow elementary, and May 31st for Dunbarton.
  • President Bryant – John Preston (sponsored by Chris Parkinson) and Cindy Anderson (sponsored by Chuck Rheinhart) were sworn in as new members and given their new badges and welcome packets. Welcome to the club, John and Cindy!
Sergeant at Arms:  Ben Kiniry
Logo Fines: Jon Ruggles – R&T Electric.
Other Fines:
  • Ben Kiniry – For arriving after his speaker
  • Tom Wilson – For neglecting to wear his badge
  • Sandy Eldridge – A self-imposed fine for speaking during the swearing-in ceremony.
  • Michelle Fortin – Two fines, for being late and for no badge.
  • Chris Parkinson – For neglecting to sign in his guest, John Preston.
  • Dave Gazaway – For being late (again).
Happy Bucks:
  • Matt Gatzke – Thank you to his wife for joining him for the roadside pick-up.  Also, he found a marijuana dispensary bag from Reno, NV.  Alan, is there anything you’d like to share with us??
  • Eric Anderson – Eric announced he donated his previous raffle winnings to the Little Red School house in VT, and was excited to pick up his de-winterized motor home very soon.  Thank you Eric!
  • Dean Cascadden – Dean was looking forward to BHS’ Romeo and Juliet, as the kids were doing a great job, as well as recognized BHS’ currently undefeated baseball team!
  • Tom Ives – Celebrating his birthday, Tom acknowledged 47 years at the Bindery.  He’s greatly enjoyed the company of Rotary, and also wanted to take the time to announce the birth of his grandson, Maximillian Joesph Ives!  Congratulations to Tom, to Sandy Eldridge, and to all family members!
  • Michelle Fortin – Michelle’s kids surprised her with a trip to Boston and a Red Sox game, which culminated in a Jumbotron-Happy Birthday message!
  • Dave Gazaway – Gave a happy buck for a recent exchange with his son. After speaking with his son about the dangers of drugs to the development of adolescent brains, was told by his son that HIS brain must not matter!
  • Jon Ruggles – Is looking forward to the golf tournament to sponsor the Boys and Girls club, which currently is scheduled for the nicest weather day of next week. Fingers crossed!
  • Gale Kenison – Gale announced that she has retired from the Bow Police Dept. after 22.5 years of service.  In total she served over 30 years for the state of NH, and was excited for the next chapter of her life. Deservedly so, she was given a standing ovation from the membership.
  • Gerry Carrier – Was exited to babysit his granddaughter
  • Ken Moulton – Recently returned from a trip to Tucson, AZ, where they actually have sun.
  • Karen Wadsworth – Spoke with her son who was in attendance at the same Red Sox game as Michelle, and relayed the jumbotron event to Karen. “Mom, it was the neatest thing!”
Raffle Winner:  Betsey Patten won the raffle, but as President Bry had neglected to purchase a new deck of cards, Betsey was awarded $40.

Program:
Ben Kiniry Introduced Peter Chasse from The Water Project, located in Concord, NH.  Peter was a pastor and had a background in software development, when he attended a conference in Canada that included a young man from Kenya names Titas.  In the five minutes Titas had to speak, Peter was impressed enough by the issues his country faced that he wanted to be part of the solution.  After visiting Kenya with Titas, Peter started The Water Project in 2006.  Peter referenced that although people in developing counties face many hardships, simply providing adequate and reliable drinking water allows them to move on from that problem to work on bettering the other aspects of their lives.  The Water Project has built over 1,000 “water points” (mostly wells) across various parts of Africa, but mostly focused in Kenya. They focus on providing continued service to these access points, and strive for full transparence for their donors and partners.  We can learn more by visiting their website:  www.thewaterproject.org

Respectfully Submitted,
Matt Dodge
