Federal Member for Groom Garth Hamilton, did a great job with guest speaker spot on Thursday. I know he was a little surprised by Gavin’s sergeant session. I don’t think Garth Hamiliton was as familiar to many of our Club members as some of the other politicians we have had speak in the past. He certainly didn’t step back from any controversial subjects and spoke very freely about The Voice referendum, bureaucracy, Nuclear power and Donald Trump. I believe his presentation and honest delivery earned him many more fans.

 

A big thank you to Phil and Leanne Gillam. The President’s Drinks on Friday afternoon / evening went very well. An enthusiastic group of Club members and partners enjoyed the Gillam’s hospitality and the yummy nibbles provided. I believe the option of having Presidents drinks hosted by a Club members as a lot of promise and I was very pleased to field offers to host future functions.

 

I have had great reports about the success of the BBQ at Bunnings on Sunday. A big thank you to Peter Nalder and Barney who took charge of the fund raiser. My thanks also to the guys who worked the two shifts with Peter and Wayne; Russel Manns, Brett Motton, Henry Campy, Peter McLoughlin, Gavin Roberts, Tony Jarroush, Geoff Kapernick, John Liley and Ian Humphrey. Peter also let me know that the donation of left over bread and uncooked onions were gratefully received at Tonys Kitchen

 

Geoff Somerville is away for a couple of weeks so make sure you have your apologies into Peter Nalder.

I have spoken about the cost of late apologies for several weeks now and as per the RCTE Board decision we will be enforcing the $20 fee for late apologies from the 1^st of March.

 

The District Conference is only 4 weeks away.

The Club needs to be well represented as conference delegates and also need our team of sergeants (ably lead by Henry Campey) to set a great example of what our Club can do.

The Say No to DV walk will be happening on the Friday afternoon (28^th March) and make sure you order your purple shirt from the acting Secretary.

 

Wendy Byron (RC Toowoomba Metropolitan) is still after a couple of our members to participate in a “Rotary Clubs of Toowoomba” short entertainment piece at the District Conference on March 29^th. So far I have nominated Humph !! and I know Roger wants to but he will “busy as” over the Conference. Any one who is keen – please contact me.

 

I looking forward to hearing from PDG Jitendra Prasad when he talks about the Rotary Leadership Institute this coming Thursday. Jitendra has been a regular visitor to our Club over many years and he is always up to have a friendly chat and lift the energy in our commitment to Rotary.
