Our evening meeting was a busy one as we inducted a new member and had a guest speaker who gave us plenty to think about.

We welcomed Danny Rush into the club - great to have him on board. In Danny’s induction pack was a copy of the Oracle and he was told he’d be tested on it next week! This should be good preparation, as I overheard a member already priming him for a job on a committee — which is exactly what we like to see.

Welcome Danny (and just to be clear - the Oracle test is a joke, mate).

Five guests joined us for the evening – details in the Minutes.  Always good to see some new faces and to catch up with friends of the Club.

Our speaker was Tristan Hardwick, a young bloke with an incredible story. Tristan’s a bowel cancer survivor who spoke about the importance of early detection and the power of speaking up for yourself when faced with a small army of medical professionals. On top of that, he shared how a vascular condition led to the voluntary amputation of his right hand - and yet he stood there positive, sharp-witted and full of life.

His grit and resilience really struck a chord.  His is a story young people should hear - that life can deal you a rough hand, and sometimes the only way through is to grit your teeth and keep going.

This Thursday (16th), we’re heading out of the Downs Club and to the backstage of the Empire Theatre for a vocational visit. We’ll also draw the OBG raffle prizes on the day.

A few Wilkinson Cluster announcements:
  • RC Toowoomba North – 29 Oct 25 (6pm, Burke & Wills): Foundation Fundraising Dinner with guest speaker Peter Shann Ford. RSVP required.
  • RC Toowoomba East – 25 Oct 25 (4pm, Clifford Park Racecourse): Garden City Race Day - their major fund-raiser.
  • RC Metro – 15 Oct 25 (7am Urban Grounds):  Guest speaker psychologist Dr James Brown on Men’s Health.

And lastly, a reminder, RCTE Ladies Morning Tea this coming Saturday.  Details below.
