Friday (22/08) night saw twenty six Toowoomba East mates gather at Jeff and Sandy Martin’s place for conversation, laughter, and numerous plates of Sandy’s very delicious snacks. Pretty sure none of us left hungry.
A big thank you to Jeff and Sandy for opening your home - and pantry - to us.
During the evening I was reminded of two important Rotary refrains: “With the bonds of Rotary between us” and “…goodwill and better friendships”. Both were well on show.
We were also joined by two couples, friends of members. As I’ve said before, fellowship is our secret weapon. The more friends we introduce to our brand of mateship, the stronger our club will be.
This quiet strategy may already be working. We have our first new member nomination for the year - very pleasing news indeed. Members would have received the relevant email last week.
I was sorry to miss Phil’s talk about his and Leanne’s trip to Cape York. In a straight line (not road distance), Toowoomba to The Tip is 2115 km. We all know Phil and Leanne like a drive! The only surprise is they didn’t “duck up there for the weekend.”
Our DG, Mark Williams, is starting to rack up his kilometres as he begins to visit the clubs in the District. He will be visiting us for an evening meeting on 11 September, and we will be combining this meeting with Toowoomba North. The date is on Club Events in ClubRunner.
Your Board is keen to do more with the other Rotary clubs in Toowoomba. We share the same patch and often similar initiatives, and over the years strong personal ties have developed. These relationships have benefited the Outback Getaway, and there’s plenty of scope to build on that spirit and combine forces to increase our impact.
On that note, RC Toowoomba need help for their big fundraiser, Ride the Range. A two-hour shift isn’t much to give, but it’s another way of building goodwill and better friendships. Volunteers please see Secretary Geoff.
