There was a bit of activity around the tables at last Thursday’s meeting, with several rosters doing the rounds and a number of upcoming events taking shape.
First up is our BBQ at Bunnings on Easter Saturday. These days are usually busy, and this one is expected to be no exception. Tony J has already circulated an email looking for volunteers, but there are still a few gaps to fill. If you can spare a couple of hours, please let Tony know. These events work best when the load is shared, and they are always a good opportunity for a bit of fellowship while raising funds for the club.
Geoff K was also busy circulating two rosters. The first relates to one of our important annual events, the Yukana Mother’s Day Tea on Saturday morning, 09 May. This is always a much-anticipated occasion for the Yukana mums, and it is something the club has been proud to support. Once again we will have assistance from the Interactors from St Saviour’s, which adds a nice connection between our youth programs and the work we do in the community.
Geoff is also seeking volunteers for another long-standing event the club has been involved with for more than two decades, the Science and Engineering Challenge, to be held at USQ from 18–22 May. This is one of the highlights of the year for our Youth portfolio and a thoroughly enjoyable event to be part of. Watching the students tackle the various challenges and come up with solutions can be quite entertaining. Their creativity and problem-solving approaches are often, shall we say, “interesting”.
On the member front, we were pleased to present Richard Black with Honorary Membership in recognition of his many years of service to the club and to Rotary. He remains active with the club, lending a hand with the gardening team at Hospice each week.
Many members will remember the late Cliff Hughes, a club legend who is greatly missed. To honour Cliff’s contribution, particularly his years of involvement in the Youth portfolio and his support of the St Saviour’s Interactors, a new Great Debate trophy will be named in his honour. It is a small gesture, but a fitting reminder of his legacy and the example he set in supporting young people.
Lastly, we have an international guest speaker joining us this Thursday, 19 March. We look forward to welcoming S. Senguttuvan, Chairman of the Rotary Erode Trust from Kuala Lumpur, together with Rotarian Craig Martin, his host from the Rotary Club of Garden City. Guests are welcome, please let the Secretary know if you plan to bring someone along.
A fee will apply to any member late with an apology regardless of whether the number attending on the meeting day of the meeting is over, under or equal to what the Club Secretary submitted to the Downs Club. This fee will only apply to meetings at the Downs Club or any other club meeting where attendance numbers have to be stipulated prior to the meeting.

need to submit a late apology due to changed circumstance.
Fail to show up after indicating they would be present.
The members owing a fee of $20 will notified by the Club Secretary and Club Treasurer via an emailed
Late apology fee notice.
