The Board met on Tuesday 9 December and considered a number of funding requests, particularly with Christmas now close and community need very much front of mind. I’m pleased to report that several important allocations were approved.
Support was confirmed for the Yellowbridge Christmas Appeal, with funding approved for 20 Yellow Buckets at a cost of $1,600. Filled with Christmas food and treats many of us take for granted, these buckets offer practical and dignified support to individuals and families doing it tough at this time of year.
The Board also approved a $1,500 donation to Hope for Our Children for their Bags of Hope program, supporting the important work Jules and her team are doing with vulnerable children and families in our region.
In addition, we approved funding to support the YouTurn Christmas Appeal, purchasing 10 Yellowbridge Yellow Buckets at a cost of $800, to be donated directly to YouTurn. It was good to see our support extending across several organisations that are focused on young people and families who need it most.
We also confirmed the allocation of funds raised through the OBG, with $1,000 to the Starlight Foundation, $15,000 to Momentum Mental Health Services, and $15,000 to Riding for the Disabled, with the specific project to be finalised. These are significant commitments and reflect the effort put in by members throughout the year, as well as the generosity of sponsors and ticket buyers who support the OBG.
Looking ahead, a reminder that this Thursday is our Annual General Meeting. While I know the temptation to skip a meeting and get a head start on Christmas shopping is strong, the AGM is critical to the club’s governance and we do need a quorum. It’s an important opportunity to reflect on the past year and to meet our compliance obligations for this year.
There will also be an important announcement regarding next year’s chief office bearer, so I strongly encourage members to attend.
See you Thursday.
