Our Honorary club member Paul Antonio didn’t disappoint last Thursday. He promissed us Life after Local Government but delivered a presentation on the Paul Antonio story that was both eloquent and rich with anecdotes and stories. Christo was lavish in his praise when giving the vote of thanks saying it was one of the best talks he had ever heard at Rotary. The Paul Harris Fellowship we bestowed on Paul made him the third former Toowoomba Mayor to receive a PHF from our Club.
It was great to see Browny and Ross Watt back at Rotary. Brownie has nearly finished recovering from surgery that makes him bionic!
The meeting also had some new faces, Peter Hardwick (my guest) made his second visit to the club and David Groves visited us from the RC of Wynnum & Manly.
It was very disappointing that the Clay Target shoot had to be called off. The interest was there but the date ran out of luck.
A reminder that the Club Christmas Party is less than 4 weeks away. Rob Baryla has developed a great concept for the 30th so make sure you can make it along.
Ronny Bowden is looking to put together a small group of guys who can do handy-man work at Flexi School on a regular basis. Thanks to those members that volunteered. Ron has been largely doing this work by himself. Ron & Tony represented the Club at a sort of Strategic planning meeting with Flexi School stakeholders on the 30th. This small group of our members who can do regular handy-man work was one of the outcomes.
I spoke again at our Thursday meeting about the implementation of ClubRunner. I started again with the desire to have every member and honorary member downloading the ClubRunner App onto their smart phone. Roger has produced a one-page cheat sheet on how to do this ( I am sure he will attach this to the Easterly) I also spoke of the need to get everyone to edit their data so that the system can work most efficiently. Lastly I mentioned that I want each of you to register for the ClubRunner event “member data update test” – this is the indicator the Board is using to assess the progress of the uptake. So far we have 10 of the 46 members and 10 honorary members updated. If you get stuck help is available from the guys in the ClubRunner working group – Roger K, Mark R, Henry C, Geoff S and myself.
The next RC Board meeting will be conducted at the YellowBridge Board room on the evening of the 13th of November.
The Downs Club MUST HAVE FIRM numbers. Your help is vital as I need to get these numbers to the staff at the club by Tuesday Morning for Thursday’s meeting so they can book others in for lunch.
Apologies To Geoff Somerville By 11am of each Tuesday, Text 0438235162 or email gsomer@bigpond.com
If you fail to notify Geoff BEFORE 11am Tuesday each week
You will be charged for the meal, as the club will be charged
