Our very own Craig Mathieson got unseated at the last minute on Thursday – Suzie Holt, Candidate for Groom in the upcoming Federal election and local Social Worker surprised even our program organiser by arriving for an unconfirmed invitation as guest speaker. Suzie managed the change of arrangements very capably and gave us a great presentation on her life story and why she is trying to get into politics.

So much is happening in the Rotary space in the next few weeks I am just going to create a list;
  • Peter Nalder and Tony Jarroush have put out a detailed email appealing for help with the clean out of the Club shipping container at the Tentworld site on Friday and the planned transportation of the useful material to RARE (DIK) in Brisbane this coming Saturday.
  • Ron Bowden and Phil Gillam are running a working bee at the Flexi School this coming Saturday morning. Ronnie is chasing volunteers to help from 7.30am.
  • The final component of the planned work at Teen Challenge will be the Yarning Circle. Phil Gillam will be leading the work scheduled on Saturday 3rd of May.
  • Our Club Birthday dinner will be held at Soul Kitchen in the CBD of Toowoomba at 386 Ruthven Street on Friday 9th May.
  • Our annual visit to Yukana for a Mother’s Day morning tea with the St Saviours College Interact Club is scheduled for Saturday 10th of May.

The Club Board meeting for April will be happening this coming Wednesday (9th). Once again the primary issue for discussion will be the proposal to assist the formation and chartering of a new Rotary Club. The successful dinner meeting of 12 of our Club members with the boys from RC Toowoomba South and several former Apexians on Tuesday 1st has led to revised discussions about what the assistance might look like. This is an evolving issue and I plan to get a decision from this week’s Board meeting to bring a proposal to the membership for Club endorsement.

Dr Curtis Rayment has been scheduled to be the guest speaker at our Club meeting on May 15th. He gave a heart felt presentation at the Rotary “Say No to DV Walk” on the 28th of March. I have extended an invitation to all local RC Presidents and District leaders to attend the meeting on the 15th where we can once again listen to Curtis and also present him with the money for his “Its a Man’s Issue” program that was raised at the DV walk and Rally

I look forward to our vocational visit this week to Greenridge Press. Don’t forget it will be $20 for lunch and remember to bring your hi-vis vest to wear for the tour of the factory.

Regards
Alistair
