The Rotary theme for the year was The Magic of Rotary. I felt we saw that on Thursday at our Community Awards Day.
Craig Watson (PHF) and Rob McCubbin (Pride of Workmanship) from Teen Challenge are familiar faces to our Club members. We have worked with them for many years with the projects at Teen Challenge. We honoured their commitment to their work and their endeavour at Teen Challenge. Toby Sandell sent a video of personal congratulations to Craig from Sweeden. Even better that each of them had no idea they were at lunch to receive an award.
Gail Yates was unable to be there on Thursday to receive the Ron Martin Award. She is the soon to be retiring General manger of the Disability support team at Yellowbridge. Gail’s dedication to improving and supporting the lives of people living with a disability is beyond question. She was a very worthy recipient of the Award.
Lucca Braiden is a year 12 student for the Flexi School. He is currently completing a Cert III in cabinet making at TAFE. He was the recipient of the Pat Broderick Award this year. He delivered an impressive thank you speech and I am certain every member of our Club wishes him all the very best in his chosen career.

It was also my great honour to induct a new member into our Club – Peter Hardwick. He has been a guest of Club on many occasions and I am very pleased to see that Peter has been welcomed warmly. I am sure we all look forward to hearing more about the Peter Hardwick story and about his vocation of Biomedical technology. It was just over 2 years since we brought in a new Rotarian (Cameron Ashmore in June 23). Dave Groves joined our Club in January this year as an experienced Rotarian from the Wynnum and Manly Club in Brisbane. It is vital that each of us is actively on the lookout to recruit potential new members – guys who will be the Rotarians leading our Club forward in the future.

This is the last time I will be writing the President’s Word. My second term as President of our Club has been challenging but enjoyable. I am ready and organised for the changeover to Gary Campbell and I look forward to assisting him in any way that he requires. I want to thank each and every member for the their contribution, opinion and assistance throughout the year. The Board Directors had plenty on their plates this year and I want to thank them for working with me and in particular I would like to highlight the tremendous support that Geoff Somerville (as secretary) and Allan Schefe (as Treasurer) have been to the thorough and efficient management of the Club.

See you at the Changeover on Friday evening.

 Alistair
