Last Thursday evening, we held our monthly meeting at the Toowoomba Sports Club. Although attendance was somewhat lower than usual, we still enjoyed a pleasant and worthwhile evening together.
We were delighted to welcome our guest speakers, Leanne and Phil Gillam, who shared an interesting and entertaining presentation about their recent trip to Alaska. Their stories and experiences gave us a wonderful insight into the spectacular scenery, unique communities and memorable highlights of their journey.
During the presentation, Leanne encountered some technical difficulties with the computer screen at the Sports Club. however, she soldiered on with great composure, and the presentation continued successfully. Well, done, Leanne and Phil, and thank you for sharing your experiences with us.
The evening also marked the return of long-term member Richard Black, who has rejoined the club. It was wonderful to welcome Richard back into the Rotary family. Welcome back, Richard we look forward to seeing you regularly at future meetings and activities.
On Saturday afternoon, the Rotary Club held its annual Father’s Day presentation at Yukana Retirement Village for the gentlemen residing there. Sixteen residents joined us and enjoyed light refreshments, delicious treats and the opportunity to share in a relaxed and friendly afternoon.
Rotary members Geoff Kapernick, Jeffrey Martin, Peter Nalder, Phil Gillam, Alistair Webb and Ron Bowden were pleased to spend time with the residents. Their company and conversation helped make the occasion a very special one.
Our sincere thanks go to Geoff Kapernick for organising the afternoon and to everyone who assisted in making the event such a success. These occasions remind us of the importance of fellowship; community service and the difference Rotary can make in the lives of others.
I hope all our members and especially the fathers enjoyed a wonderful Father’s Day on Sunday, surrounded by their families and friends.
That brings us to the end of another week. Thank you all for your continued support, fellowship and commitment to Rotary. Enjoy the week ahead, and I look forward to seeing you all at our next meeting this Thursday.
Remember, we are all in Rotary together.

Dear Ladies,
I hope this message finds you all in good health.
I am writing to advise of some plans I have been considering for the ladies get togethers this year. We are all very busy with our own commitments (work, volunteer requirements, grandparent duties, medical issues etc) and so I have planned to have two luncheons, and a high tea or painting experience at Pinot and Picasso.
Ideally, I would like to have the first luncheon in early November before the Christmas celebrations become a priority. The next get togethers will occur in February and April of next year. By this time most vacation and school holiday babysitting requirements will have been fulfilled. The final catch up in April will not clash with the club birthday celebrations or Mothers’ Day commitments. Some juggling around the public holidays in April may be tricky!
Venues, dates and times will be posted in the Easterly. I have been reading the Easterly and noting dates for social functions for years, as I am sure you all do as well. Relying on our dear partners to provide the information can lead to some frustrating conversations. My contact details and RSVP dates will also be provided.
I look forward to catching up with you all at some stage in the year.
Yours in friendship,
Kim E Nalder.
