Alistair's Acclimations

I am sure I speak for everyone who listened to Ali Briggs last Thursday – She presented a very compelling case for the merit of the proposed Cannery at Withcott. The Lockyer Fruit & Veggie Cooperative seems to have made good on a great idea and if all goes well from here then this region will have another very sound business. I am not sure any guest speaker has fielded more questions than Ali did.

The Club Board met on Wednesday 12th and there was a fair bit to talk about resulting from the meeting.
The big issue was the proposed Satellite Club that some members for RC Toowoomba South (RCTS) wanted our Club to establish. The Board agreed that the proposal wasn’t going get overwhelming support from our Club members.
The Members from RCTS and our Club have agreed that we should proceed with a more “gently gently” approach. We have planned for a social dinner meeting between our Club members and the guys from RCTS on Tuesday 1st of April at a venue yet to be determined.
I would encourage everyone who is able to make it along that evening to do so.
This is an opportunity to assimilate 10-12 enthusiastic Rotarians in the age bracket of 45-65 years into our Club.
But we obviously need to make sure that it feels right and I would encourage each of you to come along and meet these guys and make up your own mind.

Peter Nalder and Tony Jarroush will be leading the project to clean out the shipping container that is now at Tentworld and prepare it to become the new home for out Club gear. Keep an eye out for the working bees they will be arranging.

The Board also agreed to start a new award to be presented at our Changeover. It will be called the Alan Dorr Award for Club Achievement. It will be presented to one Club member who is to recognised for both the outstanding long-term commitment to the Objectives of Rotary and more than 10 years of valuable, consistent and wholehearted contributions to the success of the Rotary Club of Toowoomba East.

I have spoken about the cost of late apologies for several weeks now and as per the RCTE Board decision – from the 1st of March we will be enforcing the $20 fee for late apologies. The invoices for the late apologies for the first 2 meetings of March will be sent out this week.

The District Conference is under 2 weeks away.
The Club needs to be well represented as conference delegates and you can still register until the 21st. Henry Campey will lead our team of sergeants and it is the intention to set a great example of what our Club can do.
The Say No to DV walk will be happening on the Friday afternoon (28th March) and I will be chasing as many participants from our Club as possible

Wendy Byron (RC Toowoomba Metropolitan) is still after a couple of our members to participate in a “Rotary Clubs of Toowoomba” short entertainment piece at the District Conference on March 29th. So far I have nominated Humph and Stephenson!! I know Roger wants to strut his stuff but he will “busy as” over the Conference. Anyone who is keen – please contact me.

The District has just informed me that that our Club’s application for a District Grant was successful. Will receive $2500 to go towards the building of the Yarning circle at Teen Challenge. This puts a shortish timeline on the completion of this project so I am looking forward to hearing from the guys who will drive this.

I looking forward to hearing to hearing from Liam Boundy on Thursday – He will giving an update about the NBN and cyber safety.

Regards
Alistair
