This past week may have been quiet for the Club, but it’s been a busy one for me personally. I missed Thursday’s lunch meeting due to work commitments and thank Vice President Peter for stepping in and keeping things running smoothly - though I hear the verbal barbs from the floor were flying thick and fast in his direction.

Last Sunday, 23 of us - Rotarians, partners, and a couple of guests, enjoyed a relaxing lunch at Café 4342 in Forest Hill. It was a good afternoon of fellowship and conversation in an interesting rural setting. Beyond the good food and company, visits like these also bring a small but meaningful economic boost to the towns we visit. Supporting local businesses in smaller communities is one of those quiet ways our Club makes a difference. There’s benefit to us too - it deepens friendships and forges new connections, strengthening the fabric of our Club.

I’ve said before that our “power-to-work ratio” is in gentle decline. Some of us might not be as keen to wield a power tool as we once were - and that’s perfectly fine. But there are many other ways we can contribute. Giving our time is one of the most valuable acts of service we can offer.

Whenever I see a volunteer list go around, I’m struck by how often the same names appear. These are the people who quietly put their hands up, time and again, to lend a hand. Their consistency is something to admire - and to emulate.

For those still partial to a bit of DIY, there’s painting to be done at Teen Challenge on the 01 and 08 November.  See Phil G to add your name. For others, there are opportunities to support our Rotary neighbours. Toowoomba North will hold their Foundation Dinner on Wednesday, 29 October (see link below), and Dalby Rotary will again host their annual BBQ at the Dalby Stock Horse Sale (04 – 07 Dec) - a tradition we’ve supported for several years.  See Tony J if you’d like to join the roster.

Whether it’s with a paintbrush, donning the dinner jacket or tending a sizzling BBQ, your time and presence matter. Each effort strengthens our role in the community and shows what Toowoomba East can achieve when we work together.
