On Friday, members would have received the club’s Engagement Survey. This is a valuable opportunity for everyone to have their say, openly and honestly, on how the club is tracking and where we can improve.
Importantly, the survey is anonymous. That allows members to share views, ideas, and even concerns in a way that might not always surface in general conversation. For the Board, it is a practical governance tool, a way to take the temperature of the club, test assumptions, and make informed decisions about where to focus our efforts. A healthy club doesn’t just keep doing what it has always done; it listens, reflects, and adapts.
It has been very encouraging to see the number of responses already received. That, in itself, is a sign of engagement. People are taking the time to contribute, which says they care about the direction of the club. If you haven’t yet completed the survey, I’d encourage you to set aside a few minutes to do so. Every response adds to the overall picture.
That theme of engagement carried through to Saturday, when we held a Bunnings sausage sizzle, and what a day it turned out to be. According to Tony J, it was the busiest we have ever had at this venue and resulted in a record amount raised for a Bunnings sausage sizzle.
Days like that don’t happen by accident. They rely on members putting their hand up, filling the roster, and bringing a positive attitude to what can be a long shift on the tools. There is also something about the shared effort, the steady line of customers, and a bit of banter around the BBQ that reinforces what we do well as a club.
Big thanks to Tony for organising and the hours he spent on site; and big thanks to the hard-working members who gave up time during their Easter Saturday.
It is a good reminder that engagement takes many forms. Sometimes it is providing thoughtful feedback through a survey; other times it is turning up, apron on, and getting the job done. Both matter, and both contribute to the strength of the club.
Lastly, and importantly, in the next few days you will be receiving your invite to the Club’s 50th Birthday – a momentous occasion. Please react to it quickly – there is much to be finalised. The organising committee will be grateful for your timeous response.

Wooooooow Wooooooooow Woooooooooow. This is the best description I can give to yesterday’s Bunnings West BBQ!
Many of you will be wondering why? What happened?
The few, named below, who worked and gave up part of their Easter Saturday, will be aware that it was a huge HUGE day!
We almost run out of bread and sausages by 12 noon and again about 2pm. The stock we usually have for a full day!
To give you all the full picture. Our gross takings for the day was $3,666.00 LESS costs of $915.00 giving a net FUNDS raised of $2,765.00.
This a record for our Club for a BBQ.

I say a special mention to Barney BARNETT who also helped me in loading the requirements into eskies and boxes into our cars on Friday afternoon and was at Bunnings by 6.30am unloading and ensuring the supplies are in place for the 1st shift! By 7am on Saturday!!
A fee will apply to any member late with an apology regardless of whether the number attending on the meeting day of the meeting is over, under or equal to what the Club Secretary submitted to the Downs Club. This fee will only apply to meetings at the Downs Club or any other club meeting where attendance numbers have to be stipulated prior to the meeting.
A Club member will be charged a meal fee of $20 if they
fail to submit any apology before 11am on Tuesday for the meeting the following Thursday (48 hrs later)
need to submit a late apology due to changed circumstance.
Fail to show up after indicating they would be present.
The members owing a fee of $20 will notified by the Club Secretary and Club Treasurer via an emailed
Late apology fee notice.
The fee can be paid by direct credit into the RCTE Club account or by adding $20 to the $35 meal fee at the next club meeting
