PDG Jitendra Prasad and his wife Nim are always welcome guests at our Club. As we have come to expect, Jitendra was passionate and inspirational in his presentation about the Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI). I have always found listening to PDG Jitendra to be uplifting and he leaves you more motivated to live by the mantra of “Service above Self”. The concept of our local Cluster of Rotary Clubs completing the RLI as a group is well worth looking at.

After quite a lengthy work-enforced absence, Immediate Past-President Andrew Kratzmann joined us for the lunch meeting. Straight away he was given a job of getting the regalia sorted for the day! Welcome back Andrew.

Last Thursday morning I attended the local Cluster Rotary Club Presidents meeting. Another 2 Rotary Clubs are looking to contribute to the “It’s a Mans Issue” project so we could foreseeably have a cheque worth over $5000 to present on Thursday 15th of May.
Dr Curtis Rayment will be speaking at our Club meeting that day and Members are encouraged to bring their partners along for that lunch meeting. Please ensure the Secretary (Geoff) is aware of any planned extra attendees. The District Governor will be attending that day and it is anticipated that there will be between 10-12 members from other local Rotary Clubs also attending. The April RCTE Board meeting agreed to make a donation of $1500 to Dr Curtis Rayment’s “It’s a Man’s issue” program and add that to the $1500 raised at the Rotary District Conference “Say NO to DV Walk” that was held on the 28th of March.

Our Club Birthday dinner will be held this Friday, the 9th of May at Soul Kitchen – 386 Ruthven St in the CBD. Craig Mathieson has done a great job organising the dinner and a copy of the menu for the evening is also in the Easterly. We will have nearly 30 people attending and because of the lower than hoped for numbers, the included “welcome drink” will be at the Soul Kitchen venue as well (rather than at the previously advertised Toowoomba Sports Club) We have a plan to auction the voucher we have for four people (2 adults and 2 children) to partake in a day-sail on the sailing ship “Windward Bound”. The day-sail has to be taken on the weekend of 23rd - 25th of May.

The final 2 months of the Rotary year are shaping up to be very busy;

  • Phil Gillam will be leading the work to complete the final component of the planned work at Teen Challenge -  the Yarning Circle. It is now scheduled on the morning of Saturday 10th of May.
  • Our annual visit to Yukana for a Mother’s Day morning tea with the St Saviours College Interact Club is also scheduled for the morning of Saturday 10th of May. Geoff Kapernick will be once again coordinating the morning.
  • The Annual Charity Golf Day is on Friday 23rd May. Rod Brown is chasing both raffle items and ticket sales for the raffle. If you have any further questions about the golf day please speak to Steve Davis.
  • The “Last” Great Debate with the girls from the St Saviours College Interact Club is scheduled for the 12th of June. Geoff Kapernick spiked our interest last week when he announced the topic for the debate had something to do with the Zombie Apocalypse!
  • The Annual Club Awards Day will be held on June 19th.

The monthly RCTE Board meeting will be conducted on the evening of Tuesday 13th. If you have any issues to bring to the Board for consideration please speak to myself for the secretary.

I am looking forward to seeing those of you attending at the 49th Club Birthday dinner on this Friday evening.

Regards
Alistair

Club News
Hi Rotarians,

  • My thanks to Phillip Charles, Peter Nalder, Phil Gillam and Craig Mathieson who got very wet helping with the set out of the Poppies at the Mothers’ Memorial on Thursday after the meeting.  Please if I have forgotten anyone, your next beer is on me.  Geoff K

  • Could I also include the attached list calling for a couple more volunteers to assist at the Mothers’ Morning Tea at Yukana on Saturday 10 May 2025.

Also, I understand that Gary has sent you a couple of photos from the St Saviours ANZAC Tribute, the lady in the photo is Dhriti Shah.  She is President of the St Saviour’s College Interact Club and is holding the book that the Club donated to the College Library, “Shooting Blanks at the Anzac Legend: Australian Women’s War fictions by Donna Coates”, during the Tribute.

Stay safe
