Vice President Pete had the helm for Thursday’s meeting, and was very keen to publish “Pete’s Ponderings”, which follows:
Thanks to our guest speaker Sophie.
It's amazing what you can come up with during a family crisis.
Congratulations on your courage and determination.
Great to see Bob chessman and Bill Klaassen as well as Doc Smith.
Gary has sent out a challenge for all members to invite a guest for Thursday’s evening meeting.
Great to see the numbers at our meeting.
Pete…thank you!
A relatively quiet week in terms of club business. Our ongoing battle to get foreign payments through to Annapurna School in Nepal might finally be nearing resolution. We’ve identified a workaround, and with luck we’ll tick that box by next week.
We also heard from our new District Governor, Mark Williams, with updates on upcoming initiatives. One of note: another Membership Action Plan Workshop. Peter N, Roger K and I attended the first one back in May which was very insightful. There is much concern about membership within Rotary including our District 9620 which has seen a membership decline of 10% in the past 4 years.
As Pete so eloquently said in his novella above, I challenge each of you to bring a guest to Thursday’s evening meeting. No pressure to recruit. Instead, bring them to simply experience what Rotary is about. Let them see our fellowship in action, hear about our projects, and feel the warmth of our club community.
Your guest could be a colleague keen to give back, a curious friend who keeps asking about “that Rotary thing you do”, or someone whose passion aligns with our projects. And remember: they don’t need to sign up to be part of our Rotary family.
We also value Friends of Rotary — people who share our values but aren't able (or ready) to commit. One meal, one conversation, one invitation at a time — that’s how we grow.
See you (and your guest!) this Thursday night (7th) at the Toowoomba Sports Club — 6:00 for 6:30pm.
