The vocational visit to Greenridge Press on Thursday was a great success. Thanks to Henry for organising the visit and Tony for sorting the catering.
I am sure I speak for all of those who attended when I say that the insight into the modern printing industry was very impressive. My thanks to Kyal Osborne (Managing Director) and Lyndon Baker (Operations Manager) for taking the time out of their day to give our members a great tour of the facilities.
The April RCTE Board meeting was held on Wednesday 9th at the YellowBridge Board room. The Board decided to support the District Flood Relief appeal with a donation of $3500 from the RCTE Foundation. The Board also agreed to make a donation to Dr Curtis Rayment’s “It’s a Man’s issue” program and add a further $1500 to the money raised at the Rotary District Conference “Say NO to DV Walk” that was held on the 28th of March. Curtis will be speaking at our Club meeting on Thursday 15th of May. Heads up that it will be a day when members are encouraged to bring their partners along for lunch and the District Governor will also be attending that day.
Following the social dinner meeting on the 1st of April the ongoing Club discussions with some members of the RC Toowoomba South has evolved to a situation where it looks likely the they will gather sufficient numbers to move straight to Chartering a new Rotary Club.
A big thank you to the guys who answered the call to help out last Friday. It was hot sweaty work moving all of the gear out of the Shipping Container at TentWorld and sorting it into what we send onto RARE (Rotary Australia Re-purposing Equipment) formerly DIK. The Container is now totally empty & ready for its transformation to become the Club’s storage space, after cleaning and painting and signage. Jeff Martin and Geoff Kapernick took the load of 10 pallets of books and sports jerseys to RARE on Saturday. Another 5 pallets and more sports jerseys are in the shed at Tentworld ready for another delivery. My thanks to these gentlemen;
Geoff Kapernick, Jeff Martin, Graham Christensen, Criag Mathieson, Col Davidson, Mark Redmond, Phil Gillam who were very ably lead by Peter Nalder and Tony Jarroush.
Another group of members lined up for the working bee at Flexi-School on Saturday morning. The panels under the Mentoring Hub building given 2 coats of paint and 3 trailer loads of debris were cleaned out of the garden beds. My thanks again to Ron Bowden and Phil Gillam for their ongoing enthusiasm to lead the task of organising and doing the handy-man jobs at the Flexi-School. Thanks also to Paul Stephenson, Geoff Sommerville and Mark Redmond for their time and commitment.
I am looking forward to listening to Dr George Tucker (long term friend of our Club and frequent OBG and LWG participant) when he talks about Educating Health professionals this coming Thursday.
Regards
Alistair
